22 Creedmoor go/no go gauge

My 22 CM barrel is still 4-5 weeks out but, getting ready. My question today is, do I buy 6.5 CM gauges, (parent case) ? Or what? Also, do I need to remove the extractor and ejector from the bolt? Savage Model 12 action for the gauges to work properly.

Are you talking about purchasing two gages as in a go-gage and a no go-gage? I am one of the few that can get the same results with one gage and then there is the field reject length gage.

Are you planning to buy factory ammo? Go/no-go gauges are to make sure your chamber is sized to fire factory ammo. If you're planning to fireform your cases and then set your dies to match your chamber, the go/no go gauges are useful only to make sure your powder capacity is what you expect.

If you aren't setting your rifle up for factor ammo, and I don't think there are factory 22CM rounds available, then it doesn't matter. Your own loads will match your chamber assuming you set your shoulder bump correctly.

As for your original question, generally a family of cartridges all use the same go/no-go gauges. XX creedmoor gauges should all be the same.

Its rarefied air out there in Guffsterville! Almost as pure as a John Denver concert.

kendog, the OP is asking about gages, when it comes to gages we have quite a spread when it comes to knowledge, I do not need them but I can make my own gages and I can verify gages made by gage manufacturers. It would be a waste of time here but I have offered to modify go-gages to go from go-gage length to infinity on other forums. It seemed 'period correct' was more important.

That would be one gage that would have an ability to measure the length of a chamber from the shoulder to the bolt face. I have found chambers that were .026" longer than a minimum length/full length sized case or .021" longer than a go-gage length chamber.

I hope you do not believe I am competing with you because I do not believe I can do anything as silly as what you have posted.

Carlsbad, I hope I have the luxury of disagreeing with you:

A reloader with a go-gage can verify his reloaading dies. It is a matter of stripping the die of the primer punch/neck expander assemble and then place the gage into the die. If the die is correct the go-gage should protrude from the die .130" for the 30/06. If the reloader is verifying the die and shell holder place the gage into the die then place the shell holder onto the end of the case. In the perfect world the reloader can verify the die and shell holder with a .005" feeler gage; simply measure the gap between the bottom of the die and top of the shell holder with the go-gage installed, the gap should be .005", for 'newbies' the .005" should be the difference in length between a minimum length/full length sized case and the length of a go-gage length chamber.

I have ask; who measures? Most reloaders do not know if the case was sized to minimum length before they lowered the ram.
