22 Classic ?

Baddog,
I'm very familiar with the Classic cases but have never had a rifle built for them. I shot a .219 Wasp Ruger #3 for 15 years at paper and PD's. The Wasp is a little longer case and has the advantage of readily available and less expensive dies. I used the 35* shoulder when I designed my wildcat .219 DW PDK. It's like a .22 Classic except its 1.900 case length and .250 dia tight neck that requires neck turning. I've been shooting a #1 with a 14" twist barrel for 4 years and am having another built on a #3 with an 8" twist barrel now.
My .204 Wasp is close to the .20 Classic. It das a 1.77 case length and .232 dia .250 long neck that requires turning. It's 30* shoulder is in the same location as the long version of the .219 Wasp.
The Classic series seems to be another good idea that never caught on. The demise of Small Caliber News magazine probably killed any chance of them becoming popular.
There were writeups on the .20 Classic and the 6.5 Classic in SCN.

I have 2, 20 classics and I do like them. + fun to shoot accurate little recoil my son has been shooting the encore brl made by mgm in ut. and I had a old sav 340 in 30-30 I converted to 20 classic and like it for a fun gun to shoot. - Big draw back is making the brass and fire forming, If you have lots of time on your hands and a few dollars go for it. The forming and trimming takes a lot of time. All the classic cases wear designed to yous win brass with a no turn neck just 1 step deleted from the process of forming the brass.
I do like mine But their are better cases with less work involved to prep that will do the same or even a little more 22 ppc, 22 br . a little cheaper to set up for and a more common bolt face.
Hope this helps just my 2 cents
Kevin

Thanks ALL,
I was looking at the 22 Classic as a Contender project, a case with a rim as my hands & fingers aren't gripping like they used to do . The case forming looks like it would be a PITA and a drain on the wallet for the dies to step down from 30 to 22.
I think I've solved the weak grip as far as extracting rimless cases.
Anain, THANK YOU ALL
