22-cheeta 1 questions

I will be ,as soon as brux sends me my barrels at the end of Feb. I have the brass necked down to .22 cal.and bullets an powder sitting on the loading bench , action and stock ready to be bedded , can't wait as for what I'm told its a lazer .....

I have been told the gun should like 52gr. bergers with 4064 or 4895 an should shoot in the 4000-4600 fps if run hard. Should run at 4000 for a longer barrel life . I seen one of these shoot at a match and was very impressive at 100-200-300 yds.

Be sure to get at least a26 in. barrel if you are expecting over 4000 fps. I had a rifle chambered that was a sporter weight barrel 23.5 in. long and it shot great but the top velocity was in 3800s. This was when they first came out and I used the BR cases with small primers. Later made cases from 243 win, shot nearly as well with them.weewilly

Weewilly , I made cases from the 243 win. also and as for the barrel I went with the brux 28" 15 twist for speed and a backup barrel in 13 twist for the heavies . What twist did you go with on yours ? What did your barrel life run out to?

Anyone have any experience with the 75 a max out of this chambering? Loojing at a 27" with a 1:9 twist that should stabilize the a max at the 3500 plus range rite

I went to the berger website an looked up the twist calculator

Thanks, it will be on the edge of what they say is good. Maybe just stay with a 1:8

Anyone loaded 75 a max's in this cartridge or 75 grain bullets from another company. Not looking to copy load, just getting some refference.

Gonna drop off a factory savage 22-250 sporter barrel to have reamed out to have as a fire form barrel that i can throw on an action and maybe shoot some 60 some grain bullets at steel just to make it all work well.

Anyone know what go gauge i could use for this? Do i need like a 243 ai or ? I figure my 22-250 ai wont work for this

I don't call mine a Cheeta, its a .224 Durham Jet, there pretty much the same cartridge but the Jet has been around quite a bit longer. Mine is a 9 twist 26 inch barrel, I built it to shoot 80 and 90 grain Sierra match bullets, it shoots either of them very well. I use very slow powder along the RL25 range. When I first contacted Sierra about load data the first fellow I talked to just about had a heart attack once he found out what I was doing, told me it would never work. After I told him that I had been shooting there bullets for over 2 years in it, he didn't want to talk anymore. I then found a fellow there that shot a 9 twist 224 Clark and got lots of help from him. Im still playing with loads, but Im pushing an 80gr MK in the 3500 range. Its a great long range prairie dog gun especially out here in the wind. Best dog so far was 760yds.

Bob, thanks for the great info and another cartridge to look for when looking at data. That is pretty impressive 80 smk at 3500 and i am guessing that is also a fairly accurate load. I ended up orderinga 1:9 twist since it sounds like you can do most anything with these heavies in this variant we all are playing with

For what it's worth. I have a 22-243 improved 8 twist 6groove Kreiger. I'm shooting 80gr SMK's and Nosler CC's at 3550 with RL25 and IMR 7828. My barrel will not stabilize a 90 SMK or Berger for some reason. I'm not saying that the 9's won't b/c clearly he has the gun and can prove it. Also it's your rig but if it were me I'd have to get an 8 twist for the 80's and a 7 twist to shoot 90's just to be on the safe side of things

I am really not looking to through anything bigger than a 80 grain and if i through an 80 it will ne an a max which are usually a little less tempermental in the twist game at least from what i have seen and heard, but really the 75 a max is what i am planning to go with. I may try a couple powders and see what o can get going, but have been looking at reloader 17 and 4831, i use now 4350 out of my 22-250 ai and not quite getting the speed i should but accurate
