22 cal bullets

I have a rem 223 pss w/1-9 twist barrel I would like to shoot the lighter bullets around the 50-55 gr range will this cause to much RPM and blow the bullets up or cause poor accuracy..

mason, i had a model 70 223 with 1-9 twist an i shot 40 gr nosler bt at top velocities and had no problems. i'm not sure about some of the more explosive bullets though.______treeman

A lot will depend on the jacket that was used. I hot rod a lot of 40 gr BTs and never had one blow up..

You won't be able to shoot Speer tnt? They list on the box max fps.

I shoot V-Maxs down to 40 grs no problems and 55psp bulk packed for plinking and use on game and the shoot good. The price for plinking is great.

The only way to know is to try. I have several .22-250 AI barrels with different twist rates. I developed a load for my 1:14" barrel shooting 50 grn. Nosler Ballistic Tips at 4150 ft/s. that were DEADLY accurate. Shooting the same loaded bullets in my 1:8" barrel produced equally accurate and explosive results on live critters. I would have though these bullets would disintegrate but they surprised me. Nothing replaces actual field experience.

There will be no problem shooting bullets all the way down to 40grs. I had my best groups in a 1-9" Savage with 52 & 53gr Sierra MK's.
