22 BRX

Anyone out there playing with 22 BRX , if you would like to here what you think and what luck you are having thinking about building a slow twist to play with.

i had one made to let my 22-250 rest. i wanted a 12 twist but couldn't fine one, so i settled for a 9 tw. i had pt&g make the reamer to my specs. this project became a failure. my barrel had some problems(major maker and i have many that shoot great) it was a copper magnet and took forever to clean. i had too much freebore and had to seat bullets way out in the case. i just could not get it to shoot the same on consecutive days and tried a lot of bullets and powder, then the barrel burning started. one day it shot one hole, then not. replaced the barrel(same maker) chambered in 22 BR and have a one hole shooter every time i pull the trigger. i can have the reamer honed to a shorter freebore, get a 12 or 14 twist and it would probably shoot. i was looking for speed, not realizing i would have to burn more powder and barrel wear would be about the same as the 22-250. my 22 BR can push a 60 gr at 3600 fps with less powder and wear. i am keeping the 22 BRX reamer and may reconsider.

I too had a 22BRX reamer,can`t remember the free bore .050 maybe, but i had it re-ground to a 22 Dasher.

I went with a 22BRDX instead of the 22BRX less powder and plenty of potential for speed, for my purposes.

What bullet and what speed are you looking for? I have been shooting a 8 twist 223 at 600 yds with 80 gr bullets and I get 2900 + f/s out of a 28" barrel. The chamber is long throated for the 80's. For me a std 22BR would be a big step up in powder capacity.

I`m running a 12 twist.

My intended bullet is the 53 Vmax, i don`t think 4000 fps. will be too difficult, but accuracy will determine velocity.

The rifle is waiting to be stocked,so no valuable info yet...

P.S...The BRDX was chosen for it`s 40* shoulder not it`s increased case capacity...

That should be a good one what i'm look at is a brx or brdx or 22 dasher in a fast twist just to play with for Yotes and longer range paper and steal , would like to play with the 80 grain bullets, or any of the longer VLD bullets. Just for fun

Have you considered a .22 Creedmoor??????

Just a little bit smaller than a .22-243 but it has a 30* shoulder,i`m going to build one for a calling gun with the 75 Amax.....

Just a thought..........it will feed better than a BR based case for sure.....

I'll take a look at it but i kinda wanted to stick with the Brase just for the lupua brass. I have a 6BRX i built on a stiller tac 30 action just used wyatt bottom metal for the 308 and you can still seat your bullets out where you want and you can cycle them through the gun flawlessly, I really like the little thing would just like to play with the 22 counter part.

Let us know how it turns out......

Makes sense you already have BRX dies, change the bushing and have at it.... 8)
