Hey guys

First post, hopefully you can answer my questions.

Ive always wanted to Ackley improve my 22-250. But after finding out about the 22BRX and how easy it is to form brass for, plus its performance is amazing considering how much powder is in it, im hooked. Im going to be shooting up to 55gr ballistic tips- CT ballistic silvertips or nosler ballistic tips. Maybe some of the 53gr sierra flat base match bullets at targets.

What im wanting to know for sure,im already fairly certain) is that i can use standard 22BR dies for full length sizing. I will be neck sizing all the time until they get tight in the chamber and will give them a full size only then.

Also Im still up in the air about barrel twist. I know the long boat tailed 55gr ballistic tips are about the longest you can shoot with a 1:14 twist at regular 22-250 velocities. The BRX will be spitting them out faster, but Im more inclined to get a 1:12 just in case as I know that will be more than enough to do it.

What is everyones recommendations

Brad,,,,YOu are going to have some fun with the 22BRX. I am sure it will be something...
Some tips on dies and resizing...I have a 6BRX and this is my procedure; I neck size with a Redding bushing die. Then I run the case into a .308 full length die without the decapping pin or stem. Then I run the case into a Redding body die to set the shoulder back about .002. I shoot this thing in 600yd benchrest and I full length resize every time.
Having said that, I just size the brass enough so it chambers without any resistance..The reason for the .308 FL die is this. The standard BR FL die will leave about .100 of the case not sized, the area just in front of the rim. After awhile the brass will get hard to eject and your bolt will have that click at the top. It has been my experience that when the brass gets to this point it is hard to ever get it back. I always "full length resize". I used the same 100 pieces of brass for over 2 years and wore out a barrel and never lost a piece.

Im not really into the whole benchrest target thing although this chambering will be suited to it. Its going to be my long range varmint destroyer. The chamber will be a standard no turn, so the plain BR dies will do me i think. I check length after each firing and usually wait til they start to get harder to chamber before I full length resize.

I have decided to go for a 1:12 twist barrel for the 55gr ballistic tips.

Have you got any powder suggestions? I pretty much only have access to Varget and H4895,I use the latter in the current 22-250) I might have some access to the vithavouri powders but it will be limited. The only others i have access to is the winchester brand.

My LGS mate, they can get lilja, krieger, shilen and hart plus maddco and MAB if i want aussie made. But looking down a lilja destined for 22BR that is in shop, im sold on them.

Brad, I have a 22BRX in a 7" twist which probably wont suit you, but I do use my 22BR dies with a .100" spacer,a 7/8" washer ground down) under the FLS die and a 1/2" washer ground down when I,m using the bullet seater,wilson seater). I have had no problems with this.

Awesome mate, youve actually just answered a question i posted in another section and on a local forum. I wasnt sure what sort of spacer to use but now i will look for a 7/8" washer that i can grind down to 0.100".

My barrel is here, headspace guages, cases, primers, powder and some 55gr ballistic tips,nosler) and 55gr CT ballistic silvertips are also here so when the dies come at the end of the week, Im going to be sorted. The action should go in next week to get the new barrel on and to get blueprinted as well.

Im looking forward to a very accurate long range varminter.

1:10 mate, i did a bit of a spiel on AV as well. My smith gets stuff from PVM at pro cal. Seems like there is a pretty big waiting list on stuff at the moment, some customers are waiting 8-9 weeks from what i hear. Reckon shane might be a better bet for those sort of things.
