22 BRA

You're on the right track.

I am just starting a 22PPC (the "forgotten cartridge") project. I have been down the 22BR road and it is a fine chambering, but the neck down process is a major P.I.T.A. I have necked down many different cartridges over the years and will never do it again. Perfornance with the PPC is virtually identical without that hassle and you still have excellent Lapua brass.

Recent introduction of high BC 22cal bullets make this idea viable, at least out to 600yds. The Hornady 75gr ELD-M with G7 BC of .235 is accurate and cheap ($.19ea). Heavier 80-95gr bullets offer no advantage over the 75 when you consider the velocity/BC trade-off, and the 75's are a lot cheaper. In addition, the 75 works in 1:8 twist while the heavies require 1:6.5-1:7 which puts a lot more stress on the jackets, probably reducing accuracy even if they don't blow up.

If you run the numbers, the difference in drift at 600yds is minimal and you have about 40% less recoil with the 22/75gr vs 6/105-107gr.

Keep in mind that these suggestions are meant for the 300M-600yd game. At 1000 you're probably better off with the 6BRI.

Or get the best of both worlds with a .22 PPC AI...

Anyone done a .22 BRA? With the new heavy high BC .22 bullets available, this could be a cool cartridge. I think the 88 ELD's or 95 SMK's...
.

So last night I'm thinking.... you know, a Cartridge exactly between the BR & the Creed would be the Perfect .224 Cartridge. 1.76" Long, .465" Shoulder. Hello Lotto?

Already on it in 6mm. First reamer should be here in May. If it shoots a 22 version will be made. I currently have a 22 Dasher and don’t know if I ever want to change. It’s ridiculously accurate

Sounds like that would be pretty close to the 22x47...?

Bumping this out of boredom, to see if any new members have gone down this rabbit hole.

If I wasn't back in school with no income, I would be looking at getting a ~22" .22BRA barrel spun up to shoot suppressed with the new 85 grain Bergers.

@MTSLW, how did yours turn out?

I did a 22BR and logged it here:
I was able to get tremendous speed with RL-17 and the 85.5 Bergers but accuracy was lacking even when I turned it down and went to different powders. The 85.5 were able to be driven to similar speeds as the 80gn bullets - notably faster than the 90gn class. My barrel also liked to blow up just about everything. I've got another barrel coming now but this one is a 7.7 twist Krieger and I plan to stick to the 80s mostly. I'll try the 85.5 again too and see if this barrel likes them better.
