22 BRA @ 600 yards

This past weekend I got the 22 BRA out to do some final fine tuning on seating depth then reseated 5 rounds at the best seating depth and put 5 down for the final test for confirmation.
Testing was done at 600 yards.

Here’s the first test using 1” dots

Here’s the confirmation group seated at 1.757 using a 2” dot as that little 1” was a bit tough seeing.

That is impressive. What kind of velosity are you getting? It seems that Sierra 80 has always shot good! Samuel Hall

Outstanding. Those are some excellent results. What was the idea behind the 80gr bullets or is that just what the gun likes?

I’ve had very good success with them in the past. That and I really didn’t want to go with a faster twist for 1-2 specific Bullets that are heavier. As in the past I’ve found that those fast twist barrels just aren’t as accurate and they are harder to tune.

Some years ago, I was fortunate enough to shoot A 22 Dasher belonging to John Adams, RIP. John was getting great results with an early Lot of 80gr Hornady Bullets, no longer made. But I was impressed with the Dasher and 80s. Very flat shooting with noticeably less recoil than my 6 BRDX shooting 105s

I think if I would built a long range varmint rifle, it would probably be a 22 Dasher or 22 BRA.

Note — this is not to be confused with a different wildcat, the Long Dasher, which Adams and Mike Sosenko shot.

I have some of the new ELDM im going to test and see if they show any promise.
I also want to go back and revisit VV N150 and see if there’s more accuracy with that powder as well

James, Is these Sierra 80's in the Lands or jumping?

Have you tried the Berger 80VLD? I have shot a ton of these thru a 223 with a .140 freebore with success.

Looks like you got it worked out... Nice shooting. What did you see in your first testing to make you settle on a seating depth of 1.757? I am assuming that you tried it to eliminate some of the vertical in the 1.758 group, correct?

James what was the thought behind the 1" dot aiming point? A larger aiming point will only improve groups, right? huh? Taking that ole' aim small miss small wives' tale to an extent?
