22 br v 22 ppc

niceone,

Both are very accurate, the 22BR will give you a little more speed. I would pick the 22BR

My SS SM Shilen 29" 14tw full bull 22br has no trouble shooting 55 & 60 grain Vmax's to minute of dead prairie dog between 500 to 600 yds it's biggest limitation is it's shooter.

Why a BR over a PPC, case prep it much easier to simlpy neck down Lapua 6mmBR brass for a no turn neck and shoot then to form, neck turn and fireform Lapua 220 Russian brass for the PPC. So a big factor is how many case do need, if your wanting it for high volume shooting like shooting a p-dog town I would choose the BR. If your looking to compete at 100 & 200yd benchrest the PPC has a slight accurcy edge when it comes to group shooting.

RJ

This reminds me of the "Chevy vs. Ford" question, but the non-standard case head diameter is another consideration. .445" for the ppc and .473" for the BR, same as 22-250,308, etc. Bolt face would need to be modified which would also require conversion to a Sako extractor if choosing the ppc. I have a dedicated bench rifle in 6ppc (switch-barrel), and tried a 22ppc, but the 22BR always outperformed it. And although the "6" is used almost exclusively in 1 & 200 yd. BR matches, and always the winner, seldom if ever see anyone using the 22ppc. My hands down favorite between the two is easily the 22BR. ;)

I kinda disagree with what is being said above. Yes the 22BR is accurate but the 22PPC is more accurate by nature. Even better is a 22 ppc short. One of the best benchrest shooters in the world shoots a ppc short 22. If the 22BR were the way to go you would see a few here and there during a benchrest match. The 22ppc just has a better powder charge to burn rate/ volume/ case size than the 22BR does. If targets and small groups were in order i would definitely go with the 22ppc, or ppc short 22. If prairie dogs and coyotes were the order i would look to the 22BR. Now with that said, i had a 22BR that shot really good, but i dont think it would hang at a registered benchrest shoot against any of the ppc cases 6mm or 22. Just the way i see. But then again, who am I!! Lee
