22 BR 'clicking' explanation...

Good morning, All. Quick question, I am gathering up the components and so forth for a single shot 22 BR build and have read about some issues with brass sizing, or possibly extraction issues related to it. It would seem that there is some incompatibility with certain brass and certain dies. Can someone provide me with a short version explanation please?
Thank you in advance.
Michael

Just buy Lapua brass. And buy all dies for 6br Norma.

6br and 22br are two of the most popular chambers I sell. The only people that have problems are the ones that go off doing weird experimental things and trying to use setups that no one else uses.

There are reamers out there that were spec’d for RP brass.
I still had to skim turn mine (Lapua)for proper clearance and I cut far enough to remove any donut issue. Was supposed to be a no turn chamber, better a bit small than to big.
It’s a one and done thing is the good part
A fine cartridge that is an absolute pleasure to work with.

I have a Cooper that I used RP 7BR brass initially, then went to Lapua. Had to take a LOT off the Lapua.

I love my Lapua brass in everything that I load, but in my Remington 40X 22BR, I will ONLY use Norma 22BR brass. Never ever a problem!

Since you asked about a specific issue, clicking usually develops with not sizing base of case enough, harder bolt close, mostly from too little shoulder bump.
With new brass, it often takes a few firings before a click starts to show.
These issues best resolved with a custom bushing die.
If your having a build done, enquire what die best with reamer being used…..pretty straight forward.
Also, since I only shoot PPC but I see Alpha makes BR brass. If it.’s anything like their PPC….the best money can buy.

Yeah, in my older 40x 22BR, things were tight with Lapua. My neck is .248" and case was chubby until I ran them through a small base die. I also skim the necks. jd

I have a Rem 700 with an unknown custom barrel, it gave me fits with clickers, I researched and read everything I could on here about clickers. I finally broke down ,after exhausting all the measuring and tinkering with my sizing procedure, and bought a small base sizer for the 6 BR. Problem solved. I had ran a few test rounds through a borrowed 308 small base die which fixed my problem, so I just bought the SB 6 BR die. My rifle now extracts and ejects as it should, I never had a problem feeding which is why it perplexed me so much. Good luck with yours.
