22 BR Build

there is some debate on that.... I use a Redding bushing F/L die, omitting the bushing, on first pass, then installing in it the next pass. Seems to make less run out this way. Also you can use the shoulder bump, and neck tension to your liking. ;)

Gabe, does your Redding bushing die shave the neck at all? I know mine does. I could probably open up the opening in the die a bit, but I opted to make a form die with my chamber reamer and an old 6mm barrel. I simply run 6 BR brass up into it and necks down enough to run into a .249 bushing. Works great.

Using new Lapua brass, no shaving with bushing out. I had to polish my die since Redding's QC went to pot. My run out is next to nothing, and still get 1.560 in length. I trim to 1.550 and load and shoot. I also use a .249 bushing. I had a Wilson die set made for my chamber (neck, seater) cost me $5 in shipping. ;)

I had a regular F/L die that did shave brass, plus crimp the end.

Rich,
If you are set on a Pac Nor barrel - then I would buy their barrel and have a good gunsmith chamber to your liking for both neck diameter and chamber throat length. I have a .252 neck on my 22 BR and turn my necks just to clean-up, but I also had a local gunsmith set throat depth to my preferred bullet & seating depth.

........ Pacnors make good tomato stakes......

Ouch, that hurts.... :o My Pac-Nor in 6BR shoots pretty darn good, but I'm not averse to other brands.

I have a custom XP-100 Rifle built by R.W.Hart with a Hart 12" twist and it shoots in the .1's at 300 with Berger 52gr and SMK 52gr and 31gr of 8208xbr and 10thou jump on both bullets. Very fun and accurate!! Enjoy it.

I don't care caliber it is, I want something that shoots in the .1s at 300.

I actually bought the rifle used from a member on here. I tried quite a few different loads before I settled at the load I previously posted. I have a few custom rigs that won't hold a candle to this gun. I have some videos on my phone of me making those shots and also hitting a 12"x12" steel plate at 1k with it. If you like I could send them to you VIA text. I'm not computer savvy so I can't post them on here.

If you can shoot in the .1's at 300 then you should be hitting targets that are a hell of a lot smaller than 12" at 1000 yards….

All day long. If he does his part.

Just because you can't do it or don't have the equipment to do it doesn't mean it can't be done. I can prove it. I understand shooting in the 1's at 300 is a very difficult feat. I have done it a few times. It can and has been done on many occasions. So if you would all like to come to SW PA and see for yourself I would be glad to give it another go. Bring some money lol.

Saying a gun "shoots in the......" means that it'll do that on demand, not a couple flukes. True .1's is anywhere from .1" to .199". Still, 300yds with a .22cal...... I'd put $1,000 on the table to see you prove that, but traveling 2,000 miles to watch someone shoot holes in paper is also way below the bottom of my give-a-crap list. Lucky for you.

The IBS 300 Yd. record for HV is .240" LV .250". That is for 5 shots.

I'd say your 22 BR is an IBS record breaker. You should go to a match.

OK, for anyone that cares.......

I gave up on the 22 BR, but did order a Shilen barrel in a different chambering.

I did learn quite a bit and appreciate all of the input and discussion.
