So.........

Been wanting to do one of these for a long time, and Chuck (Ridgeway) has my interest piqued from another thread.

Savage SA, older model 12. Rifle will be strictly 200 yard max and mostly 100 yd. at the bench only. Looking at a Pac-Nor, 3 groove, 13 twist, straight cylinder, 25" Super Match SS with a 248 neck, zero freebore for 52 gr. bullets. I couldn't make up my mind on 12 or 14 twist so I waffled........

Thoughts welcomed.

Thanks.

I went with a 12 twist 3 groove Lilja and it seems to shoot everything from 40 to 60 grains well, Surprisingly my best groups so far are at both ends 40 V-Max and 60 V-Max using different powders. I am very impressed so far with this round.

My 12 Twist Cooper with heavy barrel shoots 50-63 real well. However, my 8 Twist Cooper shoots everything from 50-80 like gangbusters.

I think you're gonna find that he 22BR is a fantastic cartridge and fun to shoot.

I have a Cooper with a 12 twist. It shoots alright a 100, 200, 300 yds. The 53 gr V Max over 8208XBR powder.

I have a custom XP-100 Rifle built by R.W.Hart with a Hart 12" twist and it shoots in the .1's at 300 with Berger 52gr and SMK 52gr and 31gr of 8208xbr and 10thou jump on both bullets. Very fun and accurate!! Enjoy it.

I used Hodgdon H4895 load data. I ran up to 32 gr. on both of these bullets. 28 gr will not blow the neck out, and smoke the case. Like TY said, enjoy it.

Pad-Nor
Caliber:22 (.224")
Chamber:22 Bench Rest
Stainless Steel
Grade: Super-Match
Twist: 3 groove/12" twist
Contour: No. 7
A = 1.2
C = 0.875
D = 4
G = 28
Finished Length: 22
Crown: 11 Degree
Finish: Polished
Fluting: no fluting
Type: Prefit Barrel
Action: Savage 12 sm. shank ZERO freebore

Sounds like a plan

And I'm assuming I can use my 6BR die with appropriate bushing for sizing?

Looking at Pac-Nor's reamer prints, I wonder if the standard reamer is too long for the 52’s I want to shoot. I probably won't prep more than 20 pcs of brass, so neck turning really isn't an issue..... The 248 reamer has a much shorter throat.

Decisions, decisions.....

And a std 22 BR FLS die for forming?

Thanks to all for their input.
