I have come up with a plan and am ready to rebarrel my 40X for .22 RF benchrest shooting.

How about some opinions on barrel makers?

Thanks,

John

If you are talking 22 long rifle (rimfire) Benchmark barrels seem to be good at this time
16.5 twist-2 groove

Is it 22BR or .22Rimfire or .22Rimfire Benchrest? Thanks. If it's the latter, check out Muller barrels.
Yeah and him and how many others are trying so hard to get one.. i have read or heard good things about Shelin Ratchet barrels, Octagon (Polygonal) barrels, but i read that they are no longer taper lapped like they used to be. Benchmark 2 groove.. also Lilja, Douglas and some other one that i can't remember right now.. In other words.. there are several out there that out to do a good job.

Every single barrel make makes great ones and not so great ones.
Muller barrels, you will not get in less than a year.......or two.
Shilen Ratchets have been the single most consistant over the last couple years, they are taper lapped, a couple tenths.

Yeeup.. i know where one is at and both really top notch outdoor smallbore shooters have been trying to pry it out of the owners hands.. he won't let it go, it is just sitting in the corner..

Not likely.
As an FYI, several rimfire shooters put togeather a group buy for some match 4groovers some 2-3 years back. Not aware of anybody that has seen a single one as of yet.
Bought from them directly or a broker (smith)? I bought two from Frank there and got them within 3 weeks of order.

Yet, as I understand it, the group buy initiated for a solid test to compare buttoned versus cut seemed to die on the vine.
Might I enquire what configuration you bought ?

.22rf Barrel .217 x .222, 4 groove, "T" style rifling 16.5 to 15.98
twist, S.S.
1.050" str. x 24" finish length send 26" blank

This was the invoiced description. They run RF barrels about twice a year when he gets a few orders waiting. This was a 1.050" straight no contour barrel and heavy as hell.

My 40X just came back from Gene Davis. He reworked the receiver, Kiff bolt with a reworked firing pin by Gene Davis and he chambered my 8 groove, LH twist, and gain twist Bartlien. It is my Turtle shooter. It is being stocked and will run a prototype 24X Remington Custom Shop scope from the 70s. Hope to have it by Thanksgiving.
