22 BR barrel life?

What is the barrel life for one of these?
I am looking at a used 1-14 26", 500 rounds down the tube, cambered by Mike Bryant. Does anyone know what free bore length for the reamer he uses? How heavy of a bullet will this stabilize.
I’m having too much fun with a 6BR I put together. Im thinking a 22 will be fun too + 22 cal bullets seem to be a little easier for me to find.

Thanks
Stephen

I am just going off memory when Mike chambered mine but he had several 22BR reamers with different free bore and neck diameters. He did mine in .254 neck 0 free bore. For bullets up to 55 grain in a 14 twist should be fine. As for barrel life there are way to many variables for me to give you an answer. I am hopping to get some where around 3k or more through mine before I retire it. but it isn't my bench gun either.

Shouldn't be any problem using your 6BR neck die with the appropriate bushing. like NorCalMikie stated the bushings are interchangeable. I use a 6 myself with a .248 bushing having a .250 neck loaded. You will need to change the expander or decapping pin retainer witch ever you are using as well. Or just decap in a separate operation and leave yours off. i bought a cheep standard full length die to do my initial forming.

I don't own a Redding Bushing die myself. I picked up a Forster Bushing Bump Die for my 6BR and like it so much that I thought about another one for my 22 BR.
Rather than buy another "complete" die to do the 22 BR, I just ordered 3 bushings to fit the 22 BR neck.
You just pick the size bushing you want and you're in business. Same as the Redding. Bushings can be had from Redding in .001 step jumps. Customized to your likes. :thumb:

Thanks guys. I make my one bushings for the 6 BR die I have. The 22 bushing sould work, I may have to cut a 30 deg. taper from the ID outward. What do your 22 bushings look like for the 6BR die? Do thay heave the taper or are they straight?

Hey your being a big help hear NCM.
How does the iner diameter look, where the neck first enters the bushing. does it have a taper from the hole outward? I think the bushing will have to have part of the sholder on it.

The bushing drops in the top of the die with the slight outside tapered edge down. The sized hole in the center of the bushing has a slight inside tapered edge for the neck to enter then it's straight all the way to the top. Kinda like the bottom of a die body.
The bushing will leave a "donut" at the shoulder neck junction.
Someone had mentioned that if you turn the bushing over so the tapered entry hole is on top, the other end being flat will size all the way to the shoulder neck junction.
Check out www.forsterproducts.com. Look at the Bushing Bump Die and you can see a good diagram of how it works.,A picture is worth a thousand words);)

As far as reversing the bushing in the die to get it to size "all the way down the neck" to the shoulder junction, you might have a problem with the neck starting in the bushing? That's the reason for the slight tapered edge. Havn't tried it myself so I can't say.
