22 BR ammo

I ran into a deal on some loaded 22br ammo that a gentleman had made by Superior Ammo for his Cooper 22br. I was able to pick up 300 rounds. My question is that comparing the loaded ammo to some fired cases I have and making sure it is okay to shoot in my gun. The necks on the loaded ammo have all been turned and measure on average of .246. I have some unturned fired rounds that were shot from my rifle that measure .255. Do the loaded rounds have too much clearance for my chamber or will they be okay? And when I go to reload these rounds with the turned necks will I encounter any other issues.

Thanks

good luk,,,one of my early 70's 22 BR's had a .244" ND...later as the ctg evolved and NO turn came into vogue I had a ..254" chamber and shot some of my old stuff in it to break in the bbl. I had 90% case neck splits!!! some had been loaded several times and some only once....and this is tooooo much clearance no matter what ,,,you can prolly shoot em one time ,or two , but they wont take that much working of the metal for very long,,IMHO<<Roger

St... my guess is you'll be able to fire them ok.. but you may not be able to reload load with a standard set of dies.. the amount of meterial that has been turned off the neck will leave the bullet loose when you go to seat the bullet, unless you have an S die.. "bushings''

expiper has it right the necks most likely will split 'cause they are already thin in the neck area

You can fire them but in reloading you will experience cracked necks. Just too much clearance. Perhaps you could work a trade with someone who has a tight necked rifle or have your bbl set back and rechambered to the tight neck. Not the news you wanted I am sure. Good luck.

The answer you guys gave was kinda what I was afraid of, but the deal was still worth it. I have a chance to purchase the Cooper that the ammo was made for, I just have to convince the wife that it must be done for the good of the brass. I do not want to be wastefull. If not I have 300 rounds for my Pdog hunt this summer. Thanks for help guys.

I can`t believe Cooper had a reamer that required neck turning..... :o

That rifle must have been rebarreled at some point.

Snap up the rifle to go with the brass and all will be good, besides you can never have too many rifles......... 8)

phil,,,I agree,,,prolly the ammo was needlessly "neck turned' and is loose fit for the Cooper chamber ,,,,that is why the guy was selling it so cheep,,,,(just guessin--there is a lot of mis-matched parts out there!!)...Roger
