22 BR ACKLEY

Dang you guys for bringing this thread up. That 22BRA is good looking rascal. Was just thinking of getting another 22BR tube. Just hate chasing a BRA sizing die.
Lol, rationalizing this, I still need 22 BR dies to make the 20BR brass.
Lol, sounds almost like a good reason for both.

Love my 22BR, built on a Sako 75 with a 20” #5 barrel, makes for a great varmint rifle. 22BRA, 22BR Ackley you say? Heck yeah - Fun fun and more fun!

I ran some numbers and it appears that the 88 ELD-M's need right at .100 FB, if I'm not mistaken? For future reference as I don't have any on hand, where do the 90 and 95's fall in with the long bearing surface on the 88's and what is the preferred FB for these?

I have a 150 fb 22bra and it's right on the verge of being too short for a 88 eldm. If I would making a reamer it would be 180 fb. That's what my new 22xc reamer is and it has the same neck length.

A 22-250 has a case capacity of about 45 grains of water.

A 6BR case is about 39 grains of water so an AI would be ~ 42 so in between.

A 22 BR AI would have less capacity but better efficiency. It will be an interesting cartridge.

Just did a 22br. 130k freebore 1.5° leade. 88s touch lands with about 55k of neck available before bearing surface gets to the neck shoulder junction. Have 55 loaded up from 5k to 55k jump in 5k steps with 28.5gr varget. I do agree that a 150-170fb would be best for the 88, however the bearing on a 90atip is shorter, as well as 90smk, and 85.5 Berger. 95smk needs near 180k from what I've heard from other 22br shooters. Excited to see your 22bra results! My friend is in the process of building one. His 26" bra should be equal to my 28" 22br I'm thinking.

150 fb is absolute minimum for the 88 ELDM as far as I can see. From my experience the donut forms somewhat above the actual junction

For example the 88 eld-m. This bullet will REALLY shoot. But it does require a freebore that is nearly specifically for that bullet. The 22 br/22bra, even with its long neck would need about 170 freebore.

I have a 22CM reamer specifically for the 88’s, its FB is .173” with bearing surface landing ~.050” above neck shoulder junction.

I shot some 85.5 Bergers today. Urbanrifleman 22bra .150 fb. 8tw. Used TS15.5. I got all the way 32.5g of charge. 32 was best.
My 4350 load was used for indoor match game.
It didn't do as well at 300 but it didn't throw any flyer's. This TS load is going much faster.
Any guesses on what 32g ofRL 15.5 will push a 85.5 berger hybrid?

Depends on barrel length, but I'd guess you're north of 3100 with a 28"+ pipe

I think we are in uncharted waters. :)
