22 Barrel Tuners and Different Ammo?

Hey all,

After finding that my Savage Mark II BTVS shoots Eley Club ammo one heck of a lot better than the old Winchester Wildcat ammo I've been sitting on for 20 years, I decided to get a Harrell's barrel tuner. (I've always wanted to have a 22 LR rifle that was a tack driver for hunting, and I think I may be on my way to owning one.)

Anyway, my question is, once you find a "sweet spot" using a barrel tuner with a particular 22 rifle, do you find that the same sweet spot setting on the barrel tuner works with different ammuntiion, or do you have to start all over again trying to find an accurate setting?

My hunch is that the sweet spot should be at the same setting – or close – but wanted to find out from people who have tried it.

Thanks in advance for any insights.

Harrells tuner has detents. Every full turn you will get some kind tune 4 to 5 times. out of the 500 hundred detents you may hit on 3 or more good tunes. If you shoot 5 shot at each tune that is 2500 rounds. I would try two shots. Remember ever lot of 22 ammo shoots different.
Accurate 22 shooting is the hardest and most expensive shooting sport we have. Larry

I have a Harrel's on my .22. I have found that, unless the velocity of the ammo is about the same, a different setting is required on my rifle to get the best out of each type of ammo. I also found the simple addition of the tuner, regardless of setting, helped all ammo a bit.

Thanks, guys. I'm looking forward to trying to get it dialed in.

Just found a good deal on some CCI Standard Velocity (1070 f/s) for $45/brick at Palmetto State Armory.

With the Bee-String on my 1913 I was able to find one tune that was more ammo "accommodating" than several others. Your mileage may vary.
