I'm sure it was pieces of the bullet and bone that turned into shrapnel that caused it, and it was only on the right/entrance side of the deer's heart. This only one of a few pass throughs that I have received with this bullet. . .usually everything in the chest cavity is a chunky pile of ooze!!! I wasn't trying to imply that the main bullet path made contact with the heart but that there was damage. You hit that high and still went through the heart?
I have some N-540 . . .what type of velocities are you seeing and what bullet weight? Have you heard/seen any up grades for these crappy magazines we have with the Howa Mini? This is my only complaint I have with this little gun and I would give the world to use a standard AR-style mag!!!N-540 @ 28.2gr is giving me great groups from my Howa mini action.
