22 ARC measurements

In one of my club matches (Black Rifles Matter) it is a requirement to use an ar15 platform. I am going to build a 22 ARC for this match. HOPEFULLY, it is a better cartridge than the 6 arc. I am in the process of forming Hornady 6.5 grendel brass to 22 arc. While I use a 22 arc fl die, I don't have a "average" base to datum line measurement. If anyone has any fired 22 arc cases, or FACTORY loaded rounds that also have a Hornady .350 case comparator insert,can you please measure the base to datum and post it. I know my measurements will be alittle different! I just want a number to compare to. Thanks, rsbhunter

I formed 22 ARC from Starline 6.5 Grendel brass in 3 steps. 6.5 Grendel- 6br- Hornady 22 ARC.
Virgin Starline 6.5 Grendel datum was 1.204-.205 w/ 350 comparator. Fire formed one time to a Proof 22arc is 2.214- .2145. Longer than any Grendel barrel I've owned. 1.210 was pretty common. This was a "light " charge of CFE223. Issue is the tight neck of the proof barrel. Formed brass was coming out with a .014-.0145 neck thickness. Seemed to be enough to release the bullet, but fired brass would not drop a bullet. I turned them down to .013 and I will see come 2nd fire. Lot of work for a non comp gas gun, but it shot very well.

YES! Thank you for the quick response. My case measurements are spot on with yours for unfired, new brass. I have neck turned to .012 on the 98 cases I have. I did start out doing the 6mm die, then tried the 22 brai die I have. That was partially successful. I did anneal prior to sizing, but still had a couple necks collapse. With the 22 arc die, no problems. Again, thank you for the quick response and comprehensive info....rsbhunter

Thoughts on the 22arc? I on the fence still as still remember 224 valk and 6 arc hype that seemed to fall short (for many people anyway). I do like the sounds of it for a comp gas gun though.

How about firing a case in your barrel and get a "for your gun" measurement?

I would love to fire a case, and as soon as Craddock ships my barreI i will. I tried the 6 arc in ar, never found anything that I liked about it. Factory ammo blew primers, ruined brass,accuracy was so so. And before anyone thinks I just got a bad set up, this was the same between 3 rifles my friend and I had. The funny thing is, I have a 243 LBC that i still shoot in competition, that outperformed the arc in everyway. I hope Hornady did this one right. I am using top shelf componets to put it together, so the results should be great. I'll be running the 80.5 and 85.5gr Berger bullets. IF this ends up being a dud, me and Hornady will part ways for good. I shoot 223, 22 brai , 6mm dasher in competition, so I have other options if needed, but I hope this cartridge is half of what they are promising... as for the Vaylkerie, the same buddy with the 6arc, went through about 3 barrels on his ar's before he found the magic to making it work. But it does work great!!! He is 95% of the time 1st or second in our matches....rsbhunter
