The 22 284 was using 30 or 35 gr bullets.
It could just be the barrel. It could also be the throating. One thing I noticed with testing the Hornady bullets against the Bergers, that most times, I couldn't get the velocity with the Hornadys. Comparing same weights, but I did notice the Hornadys were fatter and had longer bearing surface. Both of those would get more pressure with less velocity. MattFWIW, my pard shoots a fresh .22-243Win & 75VLDs, and its beating my 1/2-3/4 smoked out .22-243AI & 75Amaxs in speed. ...
MRP in my 8 twist with 80.5 gr Bergers at an easy 3600. Will shoot a 3 shot grp. in the teens. Use the standard 6mm Rem necke down and trimmed. BillAbsolutely, bullet style is surely a factor that tips the chrono in his direction.
Also, he's runnin' RL-22 in his vanilla version, and I'm runnin' H1000 in my AI, with a longer throat, to boot.
Wasn't making an apples to apples comparison. Moreso, making commentary on how a .22-243Win could very well hang with a more capacious .22-243AI in real life. With an associated pressure penalty, of course!
My barrel has lost at least 60fps in about 600rds, best I can tell. And the .22-243Win barrel he's running came off my other rifle with ~200rds (of 75Amaxs & 70TSXs) on it. Now that his load is settled upon, I've advised him to spare any plinking with it, and use it only on coyotes, LOL!!!
Hookem 74, I'm a Gonzales raised guy that enjoys living in the country. I sure would like to see a copy of the reloading for the 22-6mm. I'm in the process of trying the Gibbs effect as threading the primer pocket to accept a tube to start the powder from the front end. It really looks promising.
Todd,
After tons of looking, I am still unable to find the original article that we got when we purchased the rifle, but have narrowed it down to Shooting Times August 1984. Just found one on EBAY and ordered it!
Also, loaded up some 55 Gr Ballistics on top of 42.5 gr of 4064 last week.. going to shoot this weekend to see if the ol' girl will still shoot!
