22/6mm Remington load help(crony results)

nastynatesfish

A day which we will live in infamy
im looking for a good start point with retumbo? I loaded some from 44.5-47.5 using h4831 and 75gr amaxs. Looking for info for them and 80gr smk

Re: 22/6mm Remington load help

I'm shooting a 22-243 AI and I'm shooting 51gr of Retumbo under an 80gr. Case capacity for my chamber is around 55.5 gr of H2O

Re: 22/6mm Remington load help

Went and did some shooting today. The h4831 loads didn't impress me. I was loaded at book oal so that may have been part of it. I also loaded 49-51gr of retumbo. I loaded them 5 thou off lands. One round each to look for pressure. They all went into about an inch at 100yds. I'm gonna go shoot more tomorrow and check.

Re: 22/6mm Remington load help

What kind of speeds are u getting. My experience in my chamber is the Retumbo seems to like the pressure near max.

Re: 22/6mm Remington load help

Didn't set up the crony. Was fairly windy and a lot of people out. Hopefully I'll get out early Monday morning when most are at work and check them. I'm thinking I need to push up farther also. The necks are a little dirty but if I'm getting 3200 or so I may stay. All my primers were good so we'll see. This is from today

If it to shoot this today. I may load them again at the 3.44" and try the 51.5 again too. Wind got bad on my last set(bottom right). Hopefully I can get the crony out and run a few over it Monday or sunday

Re: 22/6mm Remington load help

My 22/243 Win. liked H1000 the best. A Fed 210 with 46.0 gr and 75 Amax gets 3550 out of my Shilen barrel and shoots in the mid .2s

Re: 22/6mm Remington load help

The 3.44 looks good. I'm not sure what ur capacity is but as long as ur not seeing pressure I would go as high as I felt comfortable. I'm getting 3620 out of a 26" barrel with the 80's.

Re: 22/6mm Remington load help

I'm gonna try to get out early and set up my crony to check it. Maybe load them out some more too and try

Re: 22/6mm Remington load help

Mine is 26" , I could run 'em faster without showing pressure signs but the groups opened up. At 3550 they still have a very dramatic effect on crows and yotes .... ;D

Re: 22/6mm Remington load help

The .22-243AI compares favorably with the .22/6mm in capacity.
I run 50.0gr of H1000 behind moly'ed 75Amaxs in my .22-243 AI for 3585fps. That is a mild load and very accurate from a 27" Brux 1:8tw.
From what I reading, seems to be a 'sweet spot' in that velocity window?

Re: 22/6mm Remington load help

I couldn't set up my crony today( ok the battery was dead, lol). I load and shot 51.5-52.5gr. The 52gr load shot pretty well too. All primers looked good. I'm gonna load a few at the 52 and try them also. I picked up a new 9v on the way in. I'll go early in the morning and run them. I shot the 51gr load again at 100. Then at 300 and 500. Held same at 300 as 100yds and hit center. Held center of steel at 500 and hit low. Plate is 16" or so. It surprised me lol. Try stuff again in the morning

A bit more than I expected or want and a big swing in speeds unless it was my crony. I had to adjust how it was sitting one and it was a little close I think(4') from muzzle. I'm gonna load some more 3 round groups at 48-50 gr of retumbo and see if I can get it down in speed some.
4.5moa from the 100 yard target to 505 yards. At 300 yards I was 1.5" low on center
505yds

First three I know I was way to high over my crony so I moved spots and got my bore winthin 2" of the bottom

They were both at about 3/4" verticle groups. Maybe 5/8 on the 51gr group. I'm cleaning the rifle down now and gonna work some more on getting it down to the 3400-3500 range. I'm not sure if the big spread in fps was actual or my crony I wish I had another to check loads against. I also got a couple er1 codes on it.

Definantly impressive numbers. The ES and SD do need to be within reason but if ur getting results on paper sometimes it's hard to argue. I do believe I will be putting together a 22/6mmAI when my 22-243AI shoots out. I'm a speed junky to a certain extent but i load to the most accurate for the gun.

That's why I want to try a lower charge. I don't have any other large primers to try so I'm stuck with cci. If I can keep it inside 1/2-3/4" at 100 and 1-1/2 at 300 I'll be happy. This was suppose to be a coyote gun and a target shooter. I don't see any reason for 3700fps. Granted the flat shooting is nice I don't think it's worth the price in barrel

Also I noticed that the neck tension wasn't the same in some cases while loading. This is all brass that I just formed so hopefully it will be more consistent now that it's formed to the chamber

Anneal it...

I'd have to anneal then resize huh? Not size then anneal? I'm new to that. Only played with some 243wssm brass. I don't have any templac. How far should i go with it?

The neck tension being different will definantly cause some pressure spikes. I typically get my best shooting in brass that has been once fired in the chamber.

Wait and buy the Tempilac. You'll ruin some cases in the process if you don't. You might also want to turn the necks.
