22-6mm Rem Help

I have a 22-6mm Remington in a model 700 27 inch Shilen select match Barrel 8 twist. I have shot 75 grain VLD's RL=25 power and 210 and 215 match primers with awful results any help would be great

Dumps -

Howdy !

Based on my .224" cal wildcat reload experience ( case capacity approx 4gr < a .22-6mm ); I recommend you go a bit faster on the powder burn rate.

IMR7828, RL-22, H4831.... in that neighborhood.

Also, once you get the powder & charge where you want them; I suggest you fine-tune the load; by trying out various primers.
In my .224" cal wildcat ( 28" 1-8 SS 5-groove ), my best load was 40.5gr AA3100; under 75"A"-Max .
When shooting the best grouping load, use of FED LR Match primers yeilded 3,420fps.
Primer switch in the load to use of FED LR Magnum Match boosted vel to 3,500fps honest; while groups opened-up slightly.

I have a 22-6mm and it shoots the 77 and 80 gr. SMK bullets extreemly well with them seated .025 to 030 into the lands. I don`t really care for the 4831 powder, although it will work, but like slower burning powders. I don`t have my loading note at hand, but if you want some of my data pm me.

Still no better 1 inch groups with every powder and charge, primers didn't make a difference. After looking at the fire control, i think this is where the problem lies. the fire control has a shinny spot wore on it and i think this is causing inconsistent ignition.

The usual disclaimer. Use at your own risk. The original author is a greater man than I. He said these were conservative in his gun, but his was a 9 twist. Some common sense and backing off 10% to start would go a long way in the tighter twist you have.

After taking a look at this data, I wouldn't call any of those top end numbers conservation, in my opinion and experience. Use much caution.
