22-250AI Powder Choices

okay fellas, I have done my due diligence on researching via the search feature on the 22-250AI = 11 pages worth of reading!!!


Looks like for the 75 gr. and 80 gr. Hornady VMAX, popular powders are:

H4831SC

RL22

H4350


I called several local gunshops today, I found some H4350, I have 2# of H4831 stashed for my 260AI


For the current 22-250AI AFICIONADOS, what is your prescribed powder(s)

H4831 75 gr A Max, Works so well I have never tried anything else with a heavy bullet. Have three 22 250ai, all shoot well with it.

Imr4350 and RL17 will give you just as much accuracy and much more speed.

man I miss the days [as in 25 years ago, of going down to the gun store, picking what powder I need for $10 - $12 a pound!]

back then, I loaded IMR3031 in my 22-250's

....yup, such is life....

The two 22-250AI's I have shoot well with all three you listed with the 75 & 80gr Amax, with 4350 giving the highest velocity and H4831sc gives me just a little bit more accuracy

Since I already have some H4831SC, and no more to be found, I will go ahead and pick up the known source of H4350.

And, I will keep an eye out for RL22 in my travels!

i have been using h4350 with the 75 a max and getting about 3325fps in a 28 inch barrel

My .22-35Rem wildcat has case capacity between that of stock .22-250 & .22-250AI.

In a 28" K & P 5-groove 1-8, my best load was:
75gr "A"-Max over 40.5gr AA3100 & Fed LR Match for 3,420fps.
Substitution of primer to Fed LR Magnum Match gave 3,500fps honest, w/ a slight opening of the groups.

In MY gun, MY loads..... AA3100 provided more accurate laods than did I4832, RL-19, VV560 et al.

41 grains of IMR 4831 in mine behind 80 gr smk's gives 3375 out of a 26" bbl.

I have used H414 for about 35 years...haven't looked at anything different...if it ain't broke.......
