22-250AI need preachers help

jonbearman

I live in new york state, how unfortunate !
I just setup my ackly 22-250 and shot it with some test loads, the first one extracted easy ,the second was stuck, had to use palm to tap the bolt open .Fired 2 more same result. I read the primers, they were definitely stiff but not flattened out(primers that is) . I set the head space on this savage with a go gage plus .oo2 . Any ideas what the trouble might be? Are the loads to hot causeing the brass not to retract after firing? Please advise.

Re: 22-250AI

I thought an AI chamber should not allow the bolt to be shut on the go guage. The 22-250 go guage becomes the 22-250AI no-go guage.

there should be no clearence between the bolt and the ackley gage. you should feel some resistance when you turn down the bolt on the standard case before you fire form it. if not you have to shorten the headspace a couple thous. you can eliminate this if you make sure the tips are in the rifling however than you will up your chamber pressure . your powder charge should be middle of the load data for standard 22-250.

If you have a 22-250 AI Go gauge, then your chamber should be set with the gauge plus ZERO. Depending on how much you compressed the wave washer for the bolt head when you set headspace, or if you didn't, going +.002 could leave you with a little too much headspace.

Thank you for your help. I love this site,so many people willing to share there knowledge.
