My barrel's a 1:9, but I've pushed the 53 well over 3,900 fps and haven't had any problems with disintegration. They shoot very well out of the 1:9 but I don't know where the critical threshold may be.How about the 53/55 Vmax bullets ? Any experience using them thru an 8 twist barrel ?
I actually have a few boxes of 50 in that same load. Wondered about If they'd come apart in this Ackley. Good to know. I'll use them up breaking in this barrel and fireforming new brass.I have shot the Winchester white box 45gr hp thru a 1in8 twist without any trouble. I got a great deal on a couple hundred rounds and i just wanted the brass. The accuracy was ok at around an inch. But they were absolutely devastating on groundhogs and coyotes I shot with it. I think they were moving around 3900 to 4000.

Got a bunch of 75 Amax and 80 eld-m bullets on hand for this gun. Throated for the 80 I'm sure the 75s will do great as well. Headed out this weekend to give a few loads a go. Not thinking I'll ever go down to a 40 but entertaining the 53 vmax as it's a petty slick little guy. Thinking it will be great out to 300-400 on ground hogs. Explosive hopefully at even those ranges. Leaving the 75-80s for a bit further out.I've shot 40 V-Max through a 23" Krieger 1-7.7" 22-250AI,just as a curiosity. No issues.
Pass the 75 ELD's at 3450fps.
Definitely an 8 twist shines in these 22-250s whether ackely or standard case. Having a 223 and 22-250 in slower twist configurations is handy as well. My decision to run the 75-80s was for some long range coyote and ground hogs. Power line hunting in areas where I hunt can offer very long pokes at coyotes in the winter. I think those heavier bullets are what the dr ordered. I'll use those 53 vmax bullets for vaporizing crows or closer range critters. Hard to beat there explosive characteristics. Many are enthralled with velocity...especially STARTING velocity, but 'tis impact velocity and wind slipping that connects dots.
Spotting the 53 a 500fps headstart in velocity, the 75 ELD reclaims that at the 300yd line and crushes it beyond there. Though in fairness, the 75 slips the wind better, from the muzzle and never looks back.
At the 200yd line,the 75 is within 150fps of the 53.
Hint.
Bullets matter farrrrrrrrrr more than headstamps.
If so what is the lightest I can shoot without worrying about bullet separation in flight.
Same here. On a PD shoot one year fed some varmint grenades which I think are Speer 52hps and they came apart believe it or not before exiting the barrel. Very bad outcome. Never again. That's why I'm trying to gain insight.I had Speer 52 gr HPs (4708) blowing up coming out of an 8T 223 at 3300 fps. Depends a lot on the bullet.
Today that statement rings true so much better than years ago. Magnums were far more useful in the days past than today with today's superior bullet lineup. Don't think I've needed a magnum cartridge in years. Hope to keep it that way. I love em but for anchoring game, don't really need em.For perspective,I'd MUCH rather gun a 1-8" 223 than a 1-14" 22CHeetah,if only because I have both.

Who's barrel? Twist is moot, bore condition is not.
