22-250

WW760 Wore out 3 22 250s. I had probably 6 of them in my life shooting 52 gr hornaday's was an awesome combination in all of them. Hell on coyotes, devastating on prairie dogs.

Haven't shot the Barnes 50 grain but I have used the Sierra 50 grain as well as the Sierra 55 grain bullets. I've tried different powders but the one I settled on is Reloader 17, gives the best velocity and excellent accuracy. Some have mentioned that Reloader is temperature sensitive but I've had no problems whatsoever.

Supposedly, W760, H414 and Accurate 2700 are all the same powder. I would be a bit careful in working up loads though.

Is w-w760 and H414 the same powder ?
W760 and H414 are exactly the same stuff. I don't know if AA-2700 is identical to the other two as I've never used it and have never inquired, but the only difference between the W-W and the Hodgdon offerings is branding. Chemically, they are the same.

I shot the old Barnes Blue bullets years ago. The blue coated ones, don’t know if they still make them. They shot good! Load was WLR primer and XMR4064. They hovered around the half inch mark. Kind of cool looking bullet with the coating.

AckleymanII is right, you don’t hear of many guys using it anymore but the IMR4320 was and is a good powder for the 22-250. Years ago I tried some of the Calhoun Double HP’s in my 22-250. I went with the 4064 that had worked so good with ALL the bullets I had tried and it would not work. I think I tried 5 or 6 different powders just trying to get them to shoot and finally grabbed a can of 4320. Bingo! It finally came around. I prob wasted way too much barrel life trying to make something work rather than just shooting what I knew already worked. But, half the fun is experimenting.

My info is based on an article in Handloader Magazine from a couple years ago. (Sorry, can't lay hands on the issue right now so can't give you the date.) I was pretty happy to know that since 2700 is pretty much overlooked and I have a considerable amount of it. My lot is at least 15 years old and has proven to be a little bit hotter than listed in the current Accurate manuals, so when using it for a bullet/ cartridge that may not be listed I find W760/H414 data, back off a little and start working up. Some nice surprises in some cases. No experience with it in 22/250 since I use CFE223 and 52-grain Amax bullets there.

I shot all of these in the p. dog wars years ago.

I graded 2700 a tad faster than 760
414 a tad slower than 760

414 always seemed to take a .5g more powder than 760.

Lot numbers of powder vary, this could account for my findings.

Also, these tiny differences could be on par with Win 295(H110) and Win 296, just a smidge difference between them.

AR Comp, new powder to me shoots the 50's at 3800+ into very tiny groups!

55's is where the 22/250 really shines, Varget will put the 55's right at 3800 or a tad above shooting bug holes in my Rem 700 factory barrels.

Lots of powders really work very, very well in the 22/250 with the 52-55g weights, N140 really shines, so does IMR 4064, H4895, Big game, and Benchmark with the 50g is 3800 shooting tiny groups.

No one ever shoots it much anymore, but IMR 4320 is awesome in the 22/250, very accurate and very fast.
i used to use 4320 in my 22-250 with good success (70s) im going to start shooting a 22-250 i have now and try to wear out the barrel. :)got a 8# of 4320 im going to use along with a few others

H380 was made for the 22-250. I just got back from my first Varmint trip of the season. My 48 year old Ruger M77 was putting on a spectacular Aero display of Sage Rats. H380 behind 52 gr Berger Flat Base out of a Shilen barrel. I took 4 guns with me but this one was the most fun this time. Just one antique to another!
Lemme guess, 38.0 grs of H380, right? ;)
