Howdy !
Can you tell us the barrel length, and twist rate ?
Also..... what bullet wt you might have in-mind ?

I had one years ago. Didn't have it that long but It would have been noted if it didn't shoot my normal load -- 35 grn IMR 4064 35 grn and any bullet 50 - 55 grn. They will pick a bullet. I've had a lot of luck with Hornaday SX,

I have a Ruger No. 1V (it was a 220 swift that was shot out...). I re-barreled to 22/250 with 1x14 Bartlein.
H380 (there is a reason it is named H380...), 38/39 grains, 55 Nosler Ballistic Tips and Remington 9 1/2. I did a primer test and it liked them...

I have bullets, mostly Nosler & Sierra from 50 to 55 grains.
I've got VV N133-N135-Varget-IMR4064-VV N140 and some others.

Howdy !
Assuming a 24 " 1-14 barrel and using 55gr bullets, IMR4064 is a proven powder for use in the .22-250.
I myself prefer WW760 / H414 and FED Large Magnum Rifle Match with this powder, under Hornady 55SX for use on groundhogs. It would also be a great match up w/ a 26" barrel.

Try 36.0 grs. Varget or 38.0 H-380 with a good primer & a 52 gr. sierra or Hornady 50 gr. v-max they both shoot great in my rifles.

Always liked H380 and H414 in my 22-250s.1V Rugers are one of my favorite rifles,they can be a little fussy but I think they are worth it.Have not seen the Zia name in a minute,my friend used to sell those in his gun shop in New Mexico years ago.Like lawman29 and others have said try 38.0 of H380 and just about any good 52-55 grain bullet to see how that gun shoots before you use up a lot of components.That load should prove the rifles ability right away.

I would start with 35.0gr varget and a 50-52 or 53gr bullet .
One thing about the 22-250 is that there are many good loads for them.
I found that varget is most consistent through weather changes. In many different 22-250 rifles with slow twists.
I also like br-2 primers with that load.

My Ruger NO.1V 22/250 didn't shoot well until I reworked the trigger to 1 1/2 pounds and reworked the fore arm stock hanger. With that 14 twist, 50 grain or 52 grain will work the best. If you like explosive power on varmints, don't waste your money on benchrest bullets. My expectations are 1/2 inch groups. Your expectations may different. H380 and Varget worked best with 50 grain bullets. The 55 grain bullets were horrible in that 14 twist for me. I rebarreled one of my 22/250 No.1s with a 12 twist and what a difference that made with the 55 to 60 grain bullets. An incredible difference!! Twist stabilizes bullet not speed!

Knew I had a few photos somewhere...just couldn't find them! The shots that fall outside of the groups are the result of shooter error, not the loads. The hole in the upper left corner of the middle photo is actually a pre-punched hole on the file paper stock. Again - Ruger #1B, 1-14", 38.5 - 39.0 grains CFE223, Hornady 52-grain AMax.

I rebarrelled mine with a Criterion 26" 12-twist, and load 34.5/RE15 under the Hornady 50gr VMAX. With Rem 9-1/2 primers, this load runs around 3450fps, but is consistently under .5MOA. This load is well under the Hornady manual max., but is a the best prairie dog buster I have found.

I'm pretty much "Sold" on using, the 52 grain, A-Max ( Now ELD-M's ) for my Rem 700, W/ 1-14 Twist.
And it looks like, they should, work Fine, on small Varmints. Should be, more accurate than NBT 50 gr but, maybe NOT, quite as "Explosive" but, Accuracy ALWAYS,.. "Trumps" for,.. ME !
The A-Maxes shot real Tiny for Me before so, I am, on the Hunt for, the 52 gr. ELD-M's, now !
