22-250 rem -1-8" twist loads Varget and 4007ssc

I am loading 80.5gr Bergers in lapua cases . Working on loads using 4007 SSC and Varget . Anyone with loads using these components with a 1-8" twist ?

Question on 4007SSC - Is it a double base powder . I am getting 3250 velocity with 35.5 grains of 4007 SSC with the 80.5 gr Berger . Backed off to 32.5 grs . Heat and throat damage a concern with 35.5 0r 36.0 grs .

Howdy !

From the info I gleaned off the website, IMR4007 (SSC ) is a " single-base " powder.

Given 4007's burn rate and most likely application(s), I'm wondering whether VV560 might also suit your needs ?
Kaltron-Pettybone told me that for a given calibre that can safely use VV160, the use of VV560 could produce more vel than VV160.... when utilized to propel the heaviest bullets in that calibre.

My tests with a large-capacity .224" cal wildcat showed from a 24" 1-14, 55gr bullets could be propelled faster w/ VV160 than w/ VV560.
( Case capacity between a .22-250 and a .22-250AI ).

But in YOUR circumstance.... shooting .224" cal "heavies" from a long, fast-twist barrel, VV560 might just be the ticket; like K-P said.

When shooting my .224" cal wildcat from a 28" 1-8, 75gr "A"-Max performed best over-all atop a 40.5gr charge of AA3100.
In my gun w/ my loads, FED LR Magnum Match gave best groups and highest vel ( both from the 24" 1-14 and the 28" 1-8 )

Best of luck in your endeavors !

With regards,

If you don't have the Berger data, I have posted it in the 22-250AI thread that has about 12 pages to it. I'll see if i can find it.
