.22-250 reloads Bolt closes very hard

Alex,
Maybe it isn't just Savages, I have an older Remington 700 Varminter in 22-250 that did the exact same thing, try to size cases and they got harder to chamber. I just had that gun re-barreled to 22-250 again and haven't had to full length size any cases yet so we'll see how it does when I do have to. Also NorMissouri9412 even if you think you got your problem fixed, do what everyone suggested and get the measuring tools to make sure.

Dave,
Glad you were able to overcome your problem. It remains a mystery to me why that happened and why after you "rebarreled" your's that the problem disappeared. Makes me wonder if perhaps Savage overused their reamer one too many times because it sure made the chamber suspect in my book. But overall, I'm happy I changed calibers since I strictly punch paper. That 6.5 is one very reliable and accurate bullet. Thx for the info.

Will not try to repeat what is already been said but in my experience the 22 250, because of the tapered case, is one of the most difficult to size but not impossible if a few simple precautions are followed.

What I learned the hard way about sizing is following which I will share:

1. Full length resizing, done properly give me the most uniform and functionally best reloads with out loss of case life.

2. Measuring the head space of a fired case and adjusting your die by means of measuring shoulder set back gives me the optimum sizing.

3. Using a full length size die improperly (not bumping the shoulder back properly) can extrude the brass and cause it to lengthen and can create chambering problems.

4. As the brass ages from repeated firings, some adjustment may be necessary to your full sizing die.

5. I check my cases for proper head space every time I reload, each rifle has it's own dedicated set of cases thus making it easy for me to manage head spacing issues.
