22-250 loads

Wondering if anyone has a good 22-250 load. Ive been testing reloader 17 and it seems to work well, but im doing a batch for my buddy and he doesnt want me to use it. Im reloading them for his savage axis. Hes a novice shooter and will just be punching holes is paper. Im willing to reload some really nice stuff for him, but he would like to keep the cost minimal. Were going to reload his hornady casings he fired over the weekend with 50gr varmint grenades. Im giving him the bullets, i had received a bulk box of them for some work i did for a friend and i dont really prefer them. What would be a good plinking range load for him? I was thinking 38 gr of 4350. Any suggestions?

Check out the top of the sub-forum "Small Stuff", theres alot of info in that thread from members. I have owned 2 22-250's and one loved H380 and the other N140, both shooting 52-55 class bullets. 4350 may be too slow of a powder.

38 grs of H380 with a magnum primer is a great place to start. H4895 works well also. Both are accurate.

Thanks guys. I havnt played with alot of .22 caliber stuff. I had reloaded the 22-250 a while back but it was my first time hand loading and just went with some basic out of the book stuff. Ill look into the small stuff forums. Thanks again.

I have been shooting 4350 in the 22-250 for many years. It may not be the fastest, but the accuracy it has shown in many different 22-250s through the years has been amazing.

Most of us are shooting 40.0 gr. of IMR 4350 with a 55 gr. bullet. Depending on the case volume, this can be problematic. WW cases that have been fired once will usually accept 40 gr., but new cases may only take 39. A drop tube helps.

Your load of 38 gr. should do well.

I've been loading 40.5 grs of W-W 760 behind Hornady's new 53gr V-Max out of my T/C predator 22" bbl for a velocity of 3600 fps.

I've tried all the commonly recommended powders (H380, Varget, IMR 4895, and IMR 4064) with 50 and 55 grain bullets.

All shot reasonable well some better than others then one day I met an avid groundhog hunter who suggested I try IMR 4350. I was quite skeptical since none of the literature recommends this powder although several of my manual do have load data for it.

Out of curiosty I tried five rounds and have been shooting this powder for the last two years using 55 grain Noslers, Federal 210 match primers, and Winchester cases. It shoots more consistently accurate than anything else I've ever tried. Velocity is only about 3450 but I'll take it over something faster with less accuracy.

My rifle is Remington Varmint 14" twist. Load data in Nosler Manual was used.

i have been playing with 22-250's for about 12 years now and have found that with lighter bullets h380 from 38-41 grns works well and with the 70grn pills and up varget or rl 15 shoot nice. i think 4350 and some others are just too slow. not saying they won't shoot, i just don't htink you are using the case to potential.
i currently use 70 grn bergers with varget and get 3250 fps at 1/2 moa or less; short range of course. i am just not that good with wind calls yet to keep it 1/2 min out to 500+.

With 50's and 55's, W760 is really good. Even better accuracy/velocity for me has been with RL15 which is just magic in the 22-250 case.

I have to agree with Ackman, RL15 is magic with 55gr Sierra Blitz Kings. Great accuracy and the best speed. 3725fps from a 22" barrel.

I used IMR4320 for 30 years, but since I tried RL15 I have not loaded one round with 4320.
