22/250 load

I've shot H414 for years in my 22-250's and the Ackley versions with excellent results. Recently I tried some 8208XBR while fireforming to Ackley in a 12 twist Lilja and 55gr BT and it is doing great. Anxious to see how well it will work in the Ackley case. Also 8208 is very temp stable.

Get a black felt marker and look up OCD,then apply what it says and you will be surprised at what you find when you get your O.A.L.Gauge. Got my gauge about 2 years ago and out of 17 rifles it was at .01+- on all but one .which was my son 700 elk rifle and it was on the lands, I told him I needed to adjust and at 5 elk and no powder in the mag YET he said no. Have a new 12 with a 6-20 viper I cant get to shoot yet or I would have missed your question. talk little shoot each day.

GOD BLESS AMERICA W.

I like 4064 with 50 and 55s and I use TAC with 40 grain Vmax. This is my go-to bullet and load in the 22-250. All I use it for anymore is shooting prairie dogs. Where I shoot them, 300 yards is about as far as you can see them (brushy). I won a BR match with my Varmint rifle using 40 grain Vmax and TAC. It was a 500 meter match. This is a stock Savage long action, skinny stock, repeater in 22-250. 500 Meter groups were in the 3" range.

I've been shooting 22-250's since before it became a factory round. I'm probably more familiar with loads and ballistics for this caliber than any other. The 22-250 shoots well with a variety of powders and bullets. I have a Savage that shoots ragged one-holers with 4007 SSC and 55 grain Sierra BTHP Game Kings. IMR 8208XBR and 50 grain Nosler BT's is another great combination. For years I had my head buried in the H380 and Varget cans until I explored several of the new extreme powders with fabulous results.

Our standby remington 22-250 varmint load was always 55gr blitz kings over 34gr. of Varget and this was a 1/4 moa load with longest p-dog kill at 705 yards. Last year switched to the hornady 53gr. v-max bullet over 37.5gr of CFE223 and it clocked around 3700fps with no signs of pressure. Again 1/4moa load and its first day out scored a 803 yard kill on a p-dog. An interesting note is that we found Hodgdon's Lever revolution powder could be swapped in (grain for grain) for the CFE223 and it still performed identical to CFE223. It is also available everywhere currently, too. Keep it a secret though !!!! good shooting

in all fairness this remy loves flat base bullets, the boat tails are just not as consistent when shooting at paper,i have restored all my faith back in it after months of trying all sorts of amo and asking you guys a lot of questions, cheers any way you have learned me a lot...simon

I had a 788 in 22-250 with a 14 twist barrel. My go to was about 35.0 grains of ww748 and it shot wildly accurate till the barrel finally burned out.

I tried all kinds of powders with 50-55 gr. bullets in my Rem 700. Best accuracy came with 42 grs. AA2700. My Savage M12 prefers Varget.

I4064 is a great powder for the 22-250, about the same in burn as Varget. I tried all kinds of powders in the one I had but, always went back to H380! Mine too performed better with a premium flat base bullet opposed to boat tails.

I may try another 22-250 again someday but, for now a .243 Win and a 25-06 Rem are filling my needs for whistle pig hunting.

hi guys ive been using 22.250 now for 20 plus years,in the three rifles ive used ive always used a 36,37 grain charge of H380 to a 50 grain bullet, ive a new remy VSSF 2 and the only way i can get it to shoot balistic tip bullets accurate is with a 40 or 41 grain load of H380,was just wondering is this the norm or am i shooting it to hot, the primers are slightly cratering and the brass needs full length resizing after, but pressure wish it seems ok,ish.what are your veiws as they would be help full..
I know this is a really old post but for all the Remington VSSF owners out there I'll just say this. A couple of the 6 or 7 rem vssf that I've owned did okay but ALL needed a skim bedding to be tack drivers. A couple I bedded an inch or so in front of the recoil lug and they shot great also. Good shooting!
