22-250 Impact Bullet Puller

I have a bunch of 22-250 loaded rounds that the Vmax is seated too deep. Just got Impact Hammer this afternoon. I knocked the heck out of the hammer on the side of a concrete wall. After thinking I was going to break the tool and also my arm. I dececied to seat the bullet a little deeper to break the case-bullet bond.. This seemed to help.
Any ideas or suggestions to make this process easier?
I want to keep bullet in case and just reseat it,

I have a collet puller also. The dang bullet is seated so deep hard to grip bullet. The one on the right is how they are seated now and left was where it got slapped a few times. A36F7894-72A2-4718-92E4-5091771E1485.jpeg

Two questions:
Did you look at the cartridge after seating the first one, as you sure buried it?
Is that blood on the bench?

I thought I was going to break my bullet puller as well. Finally just said f this and smacked good and hard on concrete garage floor and they came out.
Didn’t think of the carpet idea might have to check it out

I broke my 1st kinetic bullet pulling hammer. The plastic threaded open cap was what broke. It was a RCBS brand. Now I have a Frankford Ars. hammer, along with the Hornyday collet bullet puller.

Instead of using that phony collet that comes with the hammer use a shell holder with the hammer it’s much faster. Seating further as you have found can help. Hammer straight down on something very solid not a wall. You can do it I’ve done a lot of them.

Mark T, the Hammer is the only way for you to go as you do not have enough bullet shank exposed to get a bite on with the Grip and PULL or a collet puller.

You may have to get down on your knees in the garage, hammer straight down so that the head of the hammer is perpendicular with the floor, this is critical.

I have put cotton in the head to catch the bullet so as the tip deforms less. You may get lucky and determine how much force is needed to pull the bullet out "some" but not all the way, then seat the bullet to your desired length.

Good luck!

It is not how hard you make contact with the hammer, it is acceleration and a sudden stop that pulls the bullet best. I use the top of my vice. You can develop a higher acceleration using your wrist.

They are called inertia pullers and in order for them to work, there has to be some inertia. 22 bullets just aren't heavy enough for the puller to work well. They work great for 220 grain 30's! WH

@joshn: you be right. Dykem Steel Red
@ AckleymanII excellent idea on the cotton sir!!!
@rjtfroggy: Will the grip-n-pull work on this bullet? i.e. id there enough area to grip?50grain.JPG

This is also how I work with mine.
And for God’s sake - wear safety glasses!!!

I feel your pain! A friend once gave me a very large quantity of .22/250 and .17 Remington loaded cartridges. Now he is a very good friend, but there was no way I was going to trust to his somewhat sloppy loading practices. All I had was an inertial puller. Try pulling a couple hundred 20 and 25-grain bullets with one of those! Even 55s take a lot of pounding. You end up feeling like your hands and arms are dropping off! Finally gave in and bought an RCBS collet puller with the collets for all of my calibers and won't look back. I realize that won't help your issue with there not being enough bullet to grasp, but you might want to think about it for future problems. The idea of cotton in the chamber to preserve bullet noses is a good one (I used soft foam) as is the idea of using the appropriate shell holder rather than that crazy three-jawed chuck that always seems to come apart. I always had a short chunk of 6" X 6" post and hammered into the end.

Concrete works better than Wood, more bounce on the concrete where the wood absorbs the shock. The "Bounce" is what pulls the bullet.

I have shattered two inertia pullers, but they were beat up pretty bad when they shattered, RCBS.

Just tried the end grain of a PT ( pressure treatred) 4x4. CMU Concrete Masonry Unit is the way to go. Got about 15-18 done. Whew a lot of work..
