22-250 for match shooting?

How well do you pros think my 22-250 will be for 300 yard informal
f class shooting be..It has a 14 twist,so I know I will need the light
weight bullets..Just want to get some of your opinions on this..Can't
really afford anything else right now..Going through prostate cancer
issues so,I guess I have to try to use what I have on hand..Thanks
for any replies..Open to bullet choice as well as powder,etc... :(

Shoot what you can bring with... point is to have fun.

Sticking with that 22-250 for long will mean a rebarrel's in order fairly soon so be prepared for that if you get 'hooked.' At least your bolt face is sized for a wide variety of suitable cartridges, assuming the rest of that rifle's up to the challenge.

For messing around, a 55 gr Nosler Ballistic tip will give pretty decent accuracy. H4895 , H380, Varget are all good accuracy powders for a 55 gr bullet.

Cody, you just might want to try th e52 grain Berger match bullets for outstanding accuracy. Good luck with your battle against "PC".

I want to welcome you and we share a common problem, mine isn't cancer yet but my Dad had it and they are watching me with bloodwork every 3 months. I will include you in my prayers sir. The 22-250 is a great cartridge abd as others mentioned it can be hard on barrels if they get shot hard. If the informal f-class will allow you to cool the rifle as much as you can, it will help a lot. Good luck and have fun.

Where in new York do you live? I am near Rochester.

What do you mean by this? The 53gr SMK is a flat base, and the 55gr. Blitzking is a boat tail bullet.

I've had great luck with the 52 sierra match king, the 50 v-max, and even with the plain old 55gr sierra game king soft points.
55 v max have been hit or miss- I think I'm close to the limit on what my 14 twist swift will stabilize.
If cost is a consideration, I'd look into the 50gr Z-Max if you can find them. They are a bargain and shoot great for me. You might give up ballistic coefficient to other choices, but would be hard to beat in order to get into the game cheaply.

I shoot small steel targets at 500 yards with my 22-250 my last barrel was over 4900 rounds

so I replaced it with a eight twist barrel I"m using sierra 77 bullets at a windy range with

great results in a savage modle 12 with hs precision stock glass bedded

great replies..Appreciate them....Got my preopt...all done today...Ready to go under the knife to remove the cancer... :'(

I read where some guy back in the day came up with H380 powder just for the 22-250 and used 38.0 grains for matches so he names the powder H380. Probably has nothing to do with the question just thought Id ramble with useless knowledge. I think get god brass and hell yeah compete with it to get the basics down if nothing else youll learn to read the wind better.

Was Mr Hogdon himself , had a powder which was then unnamed , 38 grains in his new wildcat ( which became the 22/250 ) shot one holers. Suitably named H380 , wish I could get it here.

Mike.

ive read, (I think it was on the Savage Shooters board) that IMR 4064 is an ideal .22-250 powder. I have some, and ive been working with it in mine. Lately though my dedication has been to .223, so don't have any really useful load information to provide. Best wishes on the surgery, hope your posting continues uninterrupted.
