22-250 first range results for best load. Advice?

Owned several have one to this day I bought in the early 80's and with H 380 and 55 gr sierra's will still waller out one hole at 100. If you are just hunting with it (not prairie dogs) you will more than likely never shoot it out. Find a load that you can shoot the best group and have fun, there some nail drivers.

I grew up hunting deer and elk in the Clearwater and Salmon drainages of N. Idaho, but had only ever shot rimfire at squirrels and such. In the late '80s I bought my first house, in Nevada, and the guy across the street was a sportsman. He took me out into the desert and I'm cruising a two track, slowly, while he glassed. He asked if I could see the squirrel standing upright atop some rocks. I figured he meant close to the road - nothing. He handed me the binocs and pointed one out about 250 yards away. We got out, and he got me set up across the hood of the pickup with a rabbit ear bag under the forend of his Browning B-78 single-shot which sported a 4-12 Leupold. He handed me one of his 22-250 handloads - H-380 behind a 55-gr BT - and said "Hold on his head". The pill entered amidships, and I saw my first flying squirrel - helicopter style. I'd had no idea such a shot was feasible. The hook was set. I'm still being reeled in.

Thanks for the info Brian. I'll read, and play with seating depth. Thank you's to every one who chimed in. I got interested in the 22-250 from reading this board. Now that I have one, I'm loving it. Keep it warm. Not too hot. Cold means it's not being shot.
