22-250 Fast Twist Hunting Bullet

2.6 oal puts ~.24" of shank into the neck and just so happens that the shank/boattail junction coincides with the neck/shoulder junction.

That's some good info, thanks much for the Quickload data.

As to seating depth the standard of 2.350" seems really short, especially with the long bullets I've selected. So far the 69 TMK and 80 ELD-M look much better seated out some.

My Tikka has the throat & magazine length to blow right by that number.

I looked at that one, seemed to have been designed for AR-15 platforms & short yardage engagement. Kinda blunt.
I do agree on the blunt nature of the bullet. It is designed to hold together for barrier penetration but still provide good expansion. I have mainly used them in the AR-15 and they work great from velocities ranging from 2900 down to ~2000. They still expand quite well at lower velocities. The best way to think of it is that is the cheaper, more available replacement for the 60 gr Partition, which is very hard to find.

If you have the twist, are planning only broadside shots, and aren't worried about bullet failure or clean pass throughs I think the 80 ELDM vs ELDX is a great choice.

Shot over Garmin

36.5gr avg 3294 - ES 8
37.0gr avg 3312 - ES 13
37.5gr avg 3345 - ES 21, this group opened up to ~0.7" (might have been me)

I didn't load any charges beyond 37.5. Pressure still looked good and I could work up to a higher charge but I'm sticking with the 36.5-37 node. SIG brass CCI200

I used QL to model this load @62000 max psi
Just curious reading through for some info. Sig 220 swift brass ?

80.5 Berger is an awesome hunting bullet

Right now loving the 69 TMK, that thing really shoots in my Tikka and gets me 3000 fps without breathing hard. What's it like on medium sized game?

I shot a few pigs with a .22-250 & the 62gr TSX. None of them were over 250 yards, but it couldn’t have worked any better.

Contenders for fast twist Tikka 22-250

69 TMK
70 CX (mono)
77 TMK
80 ELD-X

Any proven favorites?

Currently leaning towards the Sierra 69 as I have a really good load already in the books

I use the 68/69 bthp with a stiff load of RL15 as my fire form load in my 22-250 AI in sig brass. My fire form load holds .5-.75" and creates perfect cases with one go. I'm using brass I bought years ago still but it's been amazing brass for me.

I have the same Tikka in .22-250 with the 8 twist. I have found the 75 gr Speer Gold Dots to work really well for me. While Speer did not have load data for this, I recommend you work up to this load:

Speer 75 gr Gold Dot (do not substitute with anything else as Gold Dots are coated with HBN)
Lapua .22-250 Brass
CCI 200
35.8 gr Alliant RL-16
2.107 BTO / Approx. 2.495 OAL

This load give me 3,157 fps with an ES of 14 and an SD of 5.3.
