22-250 brass? Norma or Nosler?

Need some brass for a 22-250, having used mostly laupa brass I am a bit spoiled so my question is Norma or Nosler brass for my 22-250. I want to stay away from RP and win having used it a few years ago I wasnt so keen on it.

I have not used the Nosler brass, but I do have experience with Norma. In my opinion I think the Norma brass ranks right behind the Lapua in quality.

Craig, I tried the Norma brass in my 22-250 Savage LRPV and I did not like it at all. I swapped over to Nosler because I have tried it in my 7mm Rem. Mag. and have been impressed with it. The biggest diffence I seen was in neck thickness. And, with factory chambers you need the thicker brass. Just my opinion. Bill

Craig...

Norma has a reputation of having soft heads.

If you liked Lapua, Norma will probably disappoint you.

Nosler - Eh!!

You might be better off getting Winchester and culling it. Toss the bad ones and you will still come out cheaper.

The good Winchester is very good.

I know that I will get 9,048 arguments on that last comments ;)

No arguements Catshooter. I have not tried any of the newer Win. brass except the WSM and WSSM which was better. Bill

I'm shooting some Norma 22-250 right now. This 100 peice batch has lasted me a three years in two different 22-250's. It has been shooting fine.

I have just recently bought some Winchester 22-250, and took an evening to sort through it and deburr. So far the couple of times I have shot it, it has not shot groups tighter than my old Norma brass. Time will tell.

I am not running any sort of hot loads, so I can't comment on the case heads being soft on the Norma. But, I have never ran into any sort of pressure signs even on the hottest days of shooting.

I just wish the Norma brass was more competitive in price with Lapua, then I wouldn't have even bought the Winchester.

Flybuster, My biggest dislike with the Norma brass was the necks were really thin. My rifles chamber seemed to be at the top of SAMMI spec. and it appeared that I would be working the brass way too much. But I really did not shoot it enough to see any signs of pressure or deterioration. However, I have read about some "soft" case heads and of course Catshooter has already mentioned that. Bill

I understand the part about the necks being thinner than Winchester, you can see that with the naked eye.

I can't beleive I have got this much shooting out of this brass. I am shooting this out of two factory chambers and full length sizing. One gun is a Tikka T-3 Varmint, the other a Savage Striker Pistol.

I am going out shooting today, I'll try that Win brass again.

I just got back from shooting my 22-250.

I shot from the prone position off a bi-pod. The wind was 10-12mph. Bullet 50gr V-max.

Between the two types of brass, Norma and sorted Winchester. It was hard to tell a difference. All loads shot under approx. .600" five shot groups.

I may have found a new load, I will try it out again off a better rest and calmer conditions. RE-15, Win brass, Russian primers and a 50grain V-max.

My conclusion is, for a hunting gun the Winchester will work fine, and its a way better value than Norma.

Just wanted the throw in my $.02 about Nosler brass. I bought some in 204 and am pretty damn happy with it. After three loadings with STIFF loads of Benchmark the primer pockets are still very snug. I have some Winchester stuff that is holding up ok but when I prime them the pockets don't feel as snug as virgin brass. And the Nosler stuff has turned out groups about .100 smaller on average. I haven't shot either enough to know what the expiration number will be yet. To be fair the only culling I did on the Winchester was to throw away anything with obvious defects or misaligned flash holes and there weren't many of those. No weight sorting.
