22-250 AI with staBall 6.5

Anybody try w-w staBall 6.5 in there 22-250AI I have a 1-8 twist 27” barrel. I was in Runnings Friday and they had just put out powder. 4064 , staBall and titegroup. So I bought some.

In my Family, we use, Staball 65 in,.. 7mm-08, .243's and 6 XC, so should "work" in the .22-250 !
Has a slightly slower "Burn rate", than 4350
We find our starting loads in, the Hogdon's Reloading Data.
Good luck !

Here are the Seirra load tables for the 22-250AI. No StaBall but lots of other powders. I am starting a new load for my 1:9 twist 22-250 AI with the 69 SMK. My beloved IMR 4007 SSC is now gone. I will start with H380 since it is close in the burn rate and I have a good supply. H4350 is plan B.

Luck, Timr_22_250ackley_improved_Page_1.jpg

I ran it in mine.

I used the same charge weight as R17 and it showed very good accuracy but less speed.

It was not as high pressure in my opinion, so I think there was more there to be had for the Sta-Ball

Don't have an Ackley, but in my 1/9 twist 22-250 Lapua brass, 38.5 gr Staball and a 75 Berger VLD goes 3275 FPS with an SD of 6. Accuracy is excellent

Sierra VI has more powder choices than V for the 22-250 Ackley, but no Staball. Wishing I had bought a jug of this stuff when it 1st came out & was available... & cheap.

Maybe not apples & oranges, but oranges & tangerines anyway... my Ackley is a repunched standard Rem 700V. H4350 is the best I've found to replace an old (late '80s) lot of IMR4350 with 53s @ c.3950fps. The bullet is seated long, the case is full, & there's still a little crunch when seating. W760, AA2700, show promise but less accuracy. My 1st lot of RL17 was way slower than Sierra predicted. Haven't tried the newer (speedier) lot in it yet. Big Game didn't get it, Hunter might. Staball could be a winner if it's a little less bulky than the 4350s.

I'm getting good results with it in my 22-250ai. Running 70gr vld's @ 3350 from 20" 8 twist shilen. Has been good load all winter.

I've burned it in both my 220 swift and 22/250 ,hot summer day I was blowing primers in my 22/250 with W-W recommended max load. .... Interesting looking at 55gr bullet doing 3850 in front of 44.5 grs of W-W760 . My standard 22/250 with 40.1 grs of W-W 760 pushed a 53gr V max 3850 out of a 26" cut rifled bbl.

I'd be real careful, using ANY of, the Ball Powders at, Max Loads that were, "concocted", in the Winter or, Spring and then shot, in the Summer's Heat !
Just an "observance" from,.. an ole' guy !

I use several Ball Powders ( with "thrown" charges ),. H-414 in the 7 x.30 Waters, W-748 in .223 / 5.56, H-380 in my .22-250 Rem, and Staball 65 in, .243 Win and 6 XC and LOVE them, at slightly LESS than,.. Maximum !
Be careful using, Hogdon's recommended, "Maximum charges" with,.. StaBall 65 !

Keep in Mind,.. ALL, the "Variables",. Your Chamber ( especially Neck Dia and Freebore ) and Barrel ( Bore Dia's ) vs THEIR, Test Guns and Lot to Lot, VARIATIONS in Powders ! There's MORE but, I forgot, them ( It's Hell,.. gettin' old ! ).
Are, a FEW more, FPS "really worth", ruining your Gun and possibly, your Eye's ??
