22-250 AI Groundhog loads

Very soon I will be having a 22-250 AI chambered with a Krieger HV 12 twist barrel. This will be used mostly for groundhogs and crows and I really would like to shoot the 53gr. V-Max.

I am looking for info. on some loads to try out to approx. 400yds. or a little further.

The powders I current have on hand are IMR4895, H380, A2700, Varget and H4350.

Thanks!
Alan

14 twist barrels shoot 52 and 53gr bullets better... i had one that did it. Mine now has a 12 twist and i gotta shoot 60gr+ to keep it tight grouping

I have shot out three 22-250 AI 12 twist barrels. They all shot lights out with 44.5-46 grains of H414 and 55 grain ballistic tips at 4150.

I havent tried h414 in mine. Maybe theres something with that powder and smaller bullets?

I tried varget, 380?, rl15, i think...? Fire formed with 52gr bergers bc i had them already and it wouldnt shoot em to my liking. 3/4 inch groups...

Out of that list the first one I'd try is 4895. AI and 53 start about 37g.

4895 was always my fave 22-250 powder for the 50-55's.

A2700 and W760/H-414 are very similar ball powders. Both worked extremely well in my 22/250 AI's. Check the Accurate Powders website for load data. Start with moderate standard 22/250 loads and work up til you hit the accuracy node. Although IMR 4895 and Varget may give satisfactory accuracy they are too fast burning for top velocities in the AI's IMHO. Good shooting! Vic

I am using 35.0 of 4895 with Vmax and getting bug holes. Twist is 12.

Thanks everyone for the info. so far, please keep it coming.
I've had several 22 and 6mm calibers in the past but this will be my first 22-250 AI and I'm really excited about it.

I use the 22-250ai load from Nosler's website. Max load @ 4,000 fps, with "this specific" bullet

Varget
Nosler Brass
CCI match lr
53 V-Max

no better powder for accuracy , I tried most powders and always went back to Varget.

H380 is the ticket for the 53 gr. V-Max in my .22-.250 AI. I worked up to 42.6 grains of H380 behind the 53 gr. Hornady and stayed right there. I had not yet encountered any pressure signs but accuracy was stellar and the velocity was more than enough. I don't recall the exact average velocity, but it was slightly over 3,950 out of the 26" barrel. Primer - S&B large rifle magnum, Winchester brass, bullet seated .005 off. Really bad news for anything that gets in the way. I've tried H414/W760 with the V-Max with good results, but the accuracy I'm getting with H380 is outstanding.

Usual disclaimer - this load is safe in my rifle. Please work up in yours . . . .

Kinda looking forward to sending some 75-80 grain Amax bullets thru my new 22-250 AI build down range at some ground hogs. Developing some rounds now for breaking in the barrel and accuracy testing. Should be ready mid summer for testing on pasture hogs. Not sure how light I can go with the bullet weight. It's an 8 twist barrel so guessing maybe 60 grains. Thinking much lighter and they'll come apart in flight.

Depends on bullet construction. My barrel is a 1:9 twist and I've never had a problem with the 53 gr. V-Max coming apart and they're scooting. I'm pretty sure a 50 gr. SX would come apart in a hurry but the V-Max holds together and they shoot where I hold.
