22-250 ai Feeding

Hi All,
Will a 22-250 AI feed reliably from a magazine ? I seem unable to find a definite answer as to whether a 22-250 AI will feed reliably from the factory magazine in a T3 and was hoping for advice and comments from those with experience . Single feeding isn't an option as this rifle will be used for foxing on a nighttime.
My plan is to rebarrel my Tikka T3 22-250 in the next year to a 22-250 AI , unfortunately when I've asked the question on a UK forum it was generally by naysayers , none of whom actually had experience .
Now , over here in the UK , a change of calibre isn't as simple as it appears over in the USA or as cheap . A rebarrel costs around £900 , I'm not sure of the exchange rate but not cheap ,. Combine this with having to apply for a variation and it can become a bit of a faff , so its plain to see why I need to get this right first time around .

Thanks in advance.

Before I had a Mauser redone Into 257 Ackley, I asked on the forum for a few brass already formed. A gentleman kindly mailed me 5 and I made up dummy rounds and tested it myself in my gun before I did the rebarrel. If I had some 22-250 AI brass I would send them to you but I do not. Good luck.

I run a 22-250ai from a standard Remington BDL and it feeds just fine.

I haven’t ran a 22-250ai in a Tikka but I have ran a 223ai and it worked fine.

I would think the 22-250ai will work just fine.

Or as others mentioned, jump over to the 22 Creedmoor. No brass forming.

Any reason why wanting to go .22-250AI? The 22 Creedmoor has just been approved by SAAMI and brass is available. No need to fireform brass and ballistics are a duplicate.

No reason, just fancied one and I'm not rigid in my choice . The Creedmoor is on my shortlist . Brass isn't readily available just yet but I'm sure it's not difficult to form from 6.5 or 6 cm brass .
I'm not disappointed in the 22-250's ballistics . It looks as though we're going to have "lead free" bullets forced upon us over here and a 1 in 14 twist won't cut it .

Cheers

The one I still have feeds from a 700 great, doesn’t matter how fast I work the bolt but I’m sure that varies a bit. You may want to send Zack with Old Dominion Custom Rifles a PM, he builds on a lot of Tikka actions and chambers for a lot of ackley cartridges, he would have hands on experience and be a good opinion to get. Below is his forum name, I know he’s at a shoot this weekend, it’ll probably be Tuesday before you get a response. Nice guy!

Will @WSMNUT tag him in ? That way everyone will see the answer.

I’ve built a few 22-250 AI’s on Tikka’s and all have fed flawlessly. All were true AI’s with 40 degree shoulders. I know some guys will improve the case with a 35 degree shoulder and feeding becomes even easier. Feel free to PM me and I’m also happy to take a phone call.
Good luck with your build

Thankyou for posting , that's given me the confidence to go ahead . The only positive reply I got on the UK based forum was ," it should do , as the magazine sits quite high ",which makes absolute sense to me . Though , should do and will do are not quite the same .
At present the rifle action is set in a GRS Bifrost and is shooting very well but was bought at the right price and was always destined for a build. The Bifrost is a keeper , love the ergonomics on the GRSs' .

Thankyou to all , for your posts and suggestions.

I run a 22-250ai in a Remington 700 bdl and was having feeding issues, I coyote hunt and found 50% of the time my second round would hang up and I would have to manipulate the bolt to get it to feed, this was with the 75 ELD-M, what I did to solve the issue was this…..
I switched to the 73ELD-M, this bullet was designed to be mag feed from a ar15magazine
my oal length was reduced and now they feed without issue….
