I built Remington 700 for crow work in corn fields. So far 454 yards, walking, over rows, with a 75 SMK.
Many will say Sierra never made a 75 SMK but Carrol Palant sent theses to me from Sierra so I do not argue with Carrol. Said they were out of 80s but had a couple boxes of 75s if I could use them, sure, new gun, new loads, so send them. When I got them they were molly, but……
Anyway, it is an older 700 action, I five squared it, did 100% lug contact lap, turned the action threads .010 over, sent it to Bob Cogan and had him satin hard chrome it, put a .250 lug on it, put a Lothar Walther 1-7 Manum Sporter contour, SS fluted barrel on, chambered with a live center reamer on a flating reamer holder, Kipplinger Single Set trigger, HS Precision, stock, 100% glass bedded, action, Harris Bipod, Military and Police Hakko tactical scope.

You will easily blow up bullets if you let the barrel heat up. Tried it in a midrange prone gun. 10-12 rounds then 100% poofers.

I have a 7 twist 22-250AI, I drive my Berger 80s at 3250 with or without a hot barrel just fine…… but Berger…….
