22-250 AI 1/8 twist

Don't be too ready to try a 7 twist ...several local shooters have experienced "blow-ups" shooting the 90 grain bullets out of the 7 twist barrels, whereas one shooter gets great groups in the .2" with his 8 twist 22-250 A.I. at 3150 fps...it scary accurate...and no blow-ups...

Why would you want the 22-250 Ackley over the 22 BR? Just curious?

Premo -

Howdy !

I shot 75 "A"-Max exclusively in my wildcat-chambered K & P 28" SS 5-groove 1-8.

My wildcat's case capacity is a little less than the .22-250 AI.

I was running 3,420fps for my accuracy load, w/ 75 "A"-Max over 40.5gr AA3100 and FED LR Match.
Primer switch to FED LR Magnum MAtch opened grups a bit, w/ vel increase to 3,500 honest.

My combo proved hyper-accurate, so yes....... IMHO, 1-8 would be s great choice.

I shoot 80 grn. Hornady A-Maxes in my 1-8" Kreiger .22-250 A.I.. They are an accurate varmint round that does a number on PA groundhogs.

Just got mine all setup....22-250 with a 8 twist.

LOVES the 80gr SMK.....41 gr of IMR4831
Loves the 77g SMK....41 gr of IMR4831
UP to 300 really liked the 69 SMK.....forget the powder charge..... :o

75 amax was touch with seating depth and really didn't compete with the SMK's in this particular gun.

I'm pushing the 80grainers at 3360, no pressure signs, 26" barrel. 5 taper, its shot a number of sub 1" groups at 300 and hangs in the low 4" range at 600. Gonna be a GREAT long range coyote gun!! Can't wait for fall......

sounds pretty good, i cant wait to get my barrel and get the gun set up. it will be a 1:8 twist 28" barrel, hope i can get close to same performance as you are getting.

I've sold several 1:9tw bbls to guys in the 22-250 AI - always wondered whether they'd stabilize any of the 80s. Most of the guys who've tried 80 AMaxes went back to the 75s, but they said the 80s were making round holes on paper - just wouldn't group as well as the 75s.

Anyone out there have any success with any brand of 80gr bullet in a 1:9tw 22-250 AI? I've still got three Bartleins & one Krieger 22 cal 1:9tw blanks in Rem varmint contour, and would like some more feedback on this twist rate in the AI.
