22-250 ackley

I recently inherited a 22-250 ackley with 1in9 twist, looking for a starting load, it came with bullets and brass but nothing loaded that i can try or copy, there are 60 grain hornady,68 grain hornady and 73 grain bergers that came with it! any help would be great thanks guys!!!!

Confuzed, go to the 22-250 cartridge portion of this website. When you get there, scroll down until you see the part where they have links for Sierra's load manual for the std. 22-250 and the 22-250 AI. Click on the link for the 22-250 AI and that will get you started. That will get you started but, Sierra's loads are pretty conservative. You will need Adobe Acrobat to download the loading information.

22-250AI loads are almost identical to .220 swift.Just google ackley cartridge's as there is imfo out there other than the sierra manual.I use my manuals and would suggest buying the sierra and hornady and start reading to familiarize your self with safe loading techniques.

I have a 10 twist 22-250 Ackley but it doesn't like anything heavier than 60 gr shorties so I can't help you out on the heavier bullets. I have used 2 powders with it & got good results from both H-380 & varget. Of the 2, I would lean toward H-380 with a mag primer. I'm sure that I can get you some data but that's at home & I'm not.

I wuld try those 68 gr Hornadays and then the 74's....find out how big a bullet it will stabalize ...if the big ones act up its not your loads...it is the bbl runin outa twist.....4350 is an exceellent powder choice for the big AI case no matter which bullet you settle on...Rober

Remember that if you use ball powder, use a mag primer or you'll likely be disappointed. Sorry, I got so tied up last night to check your loads out. I'll try to remember tonight.

That depends on where you live. In the desert southwest I have always used standard benchrest primers with excellent results.
