Fire forming .22-250 40° Ackley...

I went the 40° version with the knowledge that it might feed like a pig so single loading doesn't faze me,am going out this afternoon to fire form 50 cases so will let you know if the empties feed OK - the 3 cases that the gunsmith fired feed OK even without projies). I also had a 3 die Redding set of 40° dies which were expensive and hard to get so I thought oh well! It isn't even really a varmint gun its just a heavy sporter. I've had quite a few very accurate sporters now so even though heavy barrels are no doubt more accurate, the kind of shooting I do doesn't really warrant the extra weight although you do have to be careful of heat!

Mike, I haven't got any AR2206H at the moment so am just using AR2208,Varget) today. May try some soon though. I do have some BM2 but thats about it. Bought about $500 of reloading components yesterday but didn't even think of 2206H! Bought a heap of 2208 and AR2213SC,H4831) instead. Anyone in Australia should check out the South Australian Rifle Association store at Wingfield. Best prices I've seen in Oz for most reloading gear and components. Top bloke that works there too,Paul).

Will keep everyone informed and thanks for the input.

Hi Lynn.

I understand what you mean and realise barrel life is a significant cost that some people forget to consider but the fireforming loads are being put to good use against rabbits, foxes and other pests, they are grouping around 2" at 100m). I am also very busy and if I were to put a dollar value on my time and fuel it would more than cover the $60 odd dollars of barrel wear, the closest place that I have to shoot is 60km away). I am also only fireforming 100 cases to start with so have not ruled out your suggestion in the future. Thanks and your input is appreciated. I worked out the cost of running my .25-06 a few years ago,50-60+ cents/shot) and worked out later that barrel wear adds at least another 25-30% to that total!!! Thats why I bought a .222;)

Matt:)
