Picked up a 1/9 twist 22-250 going to be my new 500yd gun. Mostly steel maybe a 100yd benchrest match or an occasional 300yd. Mostly used for steel or target shooting. What scope would you pick under $600.

Sightron SIII are great scopes. You can get them just over 600 - 6-24 power or just under 600 in a 3.5-10. Covered or exposed turrets, Moa or mil. bigsupplyshop.com, best prices I've found. I have two of them, very happy with them. I would go with any of Sightrons models under the SIII, seen a few problems with them.

Swfa are tough, repeatable. The HD series has a 3-9 with a very usable reticle, clear glass. They sell for 600. I have two of them, love them. They make fixed powers for 300 bucks, a fixed 6x or 10x depending on your intentions may do the job just fine.

Leupolds in that price range are good scopes, too many models to mention.

They are closing out weaver grand slams 3.5-10x40 on eBay for 200 bucks. Made in Japan. Solid scopes. I have one of them and its held its point of imoact very well. It's been used in the field in real world hunting conditions a lot.

Used scopes can be bargains and if your patient you'll find you can save 20-30%. If you buy scopes with good warranties you can't get hurt. Swfa, Sightron, Leupold and Burris have great warranties and customer service.

Those are some of the scopes I've had positive experiences with in that price point. I'm sure others will chime in with some good options too.

The recently introduced Sightron STAC 4-20x50 is worth a look. The MOA-2 reticle model is in short supply but I think it's worth searching for. Excellent glass, confidently repeatable adjustments and a decent range of adjustment at a price that will leave you with enough change from your $600 budget to pay for a fine set of bases and rings.

I put one on a 6 Dasher 'test mule' and it performed beautifully. That scope now lives on my .22-.250 AI and the combination does all that I ask of it.

Sightron STAC. Hell of a scope for your bucks. I think as good as anything 2-3 times the price. Excellent glass. Just purchased two 4-20x50 STAC's in moa reticle.
