22-243 Winchester Loads

Hey yall new to this forum. Love this site, full of information.
Was wondering if anyone was reloading for 22-243 winchester, not the middlestead or ai and wanted to share loads. Not much information out there, mostly just stuff on the middlestead.
Also, what are yalls thoughts on the is cartridge? Im having one built and realy excited to shooot it.

Thanks

What twist barrel? what bullet you want to shoot? I have one just a regular 22-243 win with a 1-8 twist and I shoot the 243 Laupa brass necked to .224 and its also a tight neck chamber so i neck turn. but i load 75gr A-maxs behind 46.5gr of RL22 with a Fed 210gm primer AV is 3615 FPS. Also mine in built on a savage long action so i dont have any restrictions on coal.

What is your barrel length and twist rate going to be? Is Mike Bryant building for you? WD

Yes he will be just waiting on my Shilen barrel. It will be a 28" 1:8 twist.

It will be built on a 700 243 action. I was actually planning on using the 75 gr because it seems to be the most popular. Just wanted to see what everyone was using. Get some different loaads to try out
Thanks

I had one that he had built on a Rem 700 action that was a 14 twist barrel so I can't help you on loads. Mike is a great smith, I've shot with and against quite a few of his rifles, and all of them that I remember were good shooters. I'm thinking that if you talked to Mike, he could point you to some source of reloading info.

The one I had was a good shooter, but I had to be real careful with load work up on it. Wish I could help ya out more. WD

I am building a 22-284 and found a lot of overbore load info in this book. It picks up where the Ackley books left off.

This is another good source for load info.

Rl22 and h4831 work well in mine. I have a 8 twist 26" long shooting the 75house gr amax. In my gun a little over 3500fps seems to shoot the best.

So it seems that the 75Amax's shoot the best.. It's in the majority of loads I see.what's the range of this cartridge? 600 yards?I have no idea I just threw it out there

I think it's probably one of the easiest wildcats to do without the big die expence. Brass is cheap, fireforming loads basically look finished once you squeeze the neck down, just not a lot of movement to work harden the brass. Here's a pic of mine leaning up against a feral pig shot at a little over 240yds with a 75gr Amax. Rifle is a Rem 700 with a Brux 1-8 at 27". For dies I use a 243 FL bushing die and a Hornady 22 cal seater.

Nice rig! What scope is that? I don't mean to derail my own thread but what scopes are yall using? I was about to order a 6.5-20x50 zeiss but now I'm leaning towards the 4.5-14x50...

You like the sightron? After much deliberation ang going back and forth I decided on a sightron siii. just decided to choose one and go with it, or id never make up my mind.

my buddy is using H1000 and an 80g Berger at 3500fps with great results. It knocks down coyotes like lightning. Very cool little round. But barrel life suffers with cheap barrels, so get a quality barrel if you're going to be cutting one.
