22-204 Ruger factory cartridge?

My 22-204 reamer was done the middle of '07. At the time I was told Ruger had been working with that and a 17-204. Both would be logical for them. But the economy took a dump since then.

Forgive my ingnorance here but wouldnt that be a 222 Rem Magnum from which the 204 is based off of?

No, just compare the two cases. It wouldn't be a 222mag.

Intresting. Ill have to search a little more. Anyone have more info. like case capacity in H20 or such?

Thanks Ack for the reply.

Shoulder is moved forward on a 22/204, thus about 2 gr mor capacity than a 222 mag. compare the 204 case to a 22 mag case and you can see the difference, I understand it is a great cartridge and maxes out in the small case category. fairly common reamer and I believe reloading dies a available or use a bushin die for sizing. Ruger is probably doing lots of marketing study before intro., Hard to overcome the popularity of the 223 for the average shooter, Factory loaded ammo would have to be available, another glitch in introducing a new chambering.

You're close to being correct. The 204 was made from the 222 Magnum case, but the shoulder and angle was changed to make the 204. :) WD

I did a search here and have not seen anything so far. Maybe a google search is in order. No one is posting pictures of this proposed cartridge so im having a hard time visiualising it other than being a 223 or 223AI cartridge holding between 30 to 32gr of H20. If it does not hold more than 32gr of water than i see no advantage over what already exists. Except no one on my block will have one, and dont get me wrong there are folks like myself who like the odd chamberings. ( 6x47Swiss Match for one)
So then its the ole find dies to make the brass and scrounge other brass to make this brass and fire form it and maybe turn a neck or two, buy a reamer and maybe another reamer for a Newlon sizing die. Ec ect

I have been down this road too.

Anyone have a chamber in this elusive critter?

There are a few guys on this site that have them, just may not have read this thread. I have the reamer, dies, and a shilen 223 30" barrel I am going to use but working on another project first. Google it and you will find info.

22-204 shoulder angle is 30* versus 23* for the 222 mag. I believe Ruger has been looking at variations on the 204 for some time. Have copy of 6mm/204 reamer print done for a Tim Butler of Ruger in January 2004.

ThanksJohn
I did a search and that did not pop up. Odd.

Reason I ask all this is I have a small bolt face Remington with a straight tube (1.25) Douglas 1:7 barrel that would be a great canadate for either the 22/204 or the 222Rem Mag AI.

I was thinking of 223 AI but maybe now?

I second looking up "alf's" posts as he has several on this cartridge . I know he and I have talked about it and he does/has shot one . I'm supprised he hasn't jumped in on this .

Forgive me for asking...But what advantage would this round have over the 22 PPC besides brass cost???

I think the 22 ppc is a more accurate cartridge than the 22-204. Less powder and better brass. Velocity I think is about same. Just my 1/2 cent worth..
