I'm working with my Rem Model 7 with new #2 Brux 7.5 twist with PTG .22-204 chamber and .060 freebore. I had a 1/4" thick aluminum spacer JB welded at the rear of the mag box. But with the 75 gr. Amax loaded to touch the leades, the round was too long for the mag. I removed the spacer, bought a SS factory follower for .308/.243 and filed it to fit the narrower .223 box mag. Cycles great after some tweaking.
In my 722, 14 twist (had reported it as 12) Hart, now chambered .22-204, I'll be shooting lighter bullets with shorter COAL's and will use a spacer at the rear of the box mag. I'll use the Model 7, .223 follower, as it's longer than the factory 722, .222 follower. No way to touch the leades with the lighter bullets, the case neck isn't long enough. They'll have to jump.
BTW, to defeat a JB Weld, heat with a propane torch to 700 degrees and the bond gives up. It gets that hot pretty quick.
