21st Century Neck Turning Lathe v RCBS Lathe

The combination of a cordless screw driver, small scissors lift, and a coffee caddy (all from Amazon) works really well.

Neat setup.

Uda: I don’t see any indication that the variable speeds or the lack of fine control induced any additional runout. But, I look forward to getting the cordless screwdriver. I see how it will make things quicker and easier.

I use a Hitachi hand drill that that has the speed control dial on the handle. I mounted the drill on it's side and control the on/off with a foot pedal switch. Set the speed where I want it and go. Cases expanded with proper size mandrel and the cases don't even begin to get warm. However, I do remember having to use the "ice" method when I first started. Trial and error, trial and error until I got it.

I turned 10 more cases using the pictured Dewalt drill. It is clunky and difficult to control the speed.

Despite this, the highest runout I had was 15 thousandths. No heat problem and evidently, the thing wobbles very concentricly. You wouldn’t think so looking at it.
I use the Dewalt driver and K&M with great results holding them by hand. .001 -.0015. Lube with imperial wax
