The 21st expander mandrel is sized .001” larger than the turning arbor resulting in a fit around .0005” after springback. If you are having issues with a loose fit please let me know. You are correct.......They show up here now & then from $200 to $275 depending usually on the mandrel material. They generally sell very quickly.

Very happy customer here. Like anything, a person can get a bad one, but you are great on customer service. I have all 21st Century products and love them!
Unfortunately I find the design of the instrument lacking. The Mandrel has too much precession as its never fully locked... its cutting on the way in and out as it oscillates. I have had the 21st century for sometime now, I was never into neck turning I started recently again and feel that the PMA and the Pumpkin are sturdier. I have not touched the K&M in a while, but from what I remember it did not have any oscillation. I did expand with the 21st century mandrel and the turning mandrel is also the 21st century carbide mandrel. I am not a fan of how the lathe has that articulating joint, I feel much more confident when the brass is locked into the shellholder without articulation.

I have to say, when the 21 is used with proper technique. I get perfect results of 2 ten and a lot of time actually I have gotten 1 ten. You really cant get better. They are all nice quite honestly pma is sweet to, but I prefer the lathe up and hooked up my own motor. Even tho 21 lathe floats, which is on purpose, with the lathe attachment and a motor, things stay very straight while operating. The pumpkin is sweet to, I just hate not getting to see progress of what is going on.

Not getting to see progress? I can see it fine but yes its recessed. I don't think its necessarily the best neck cutter out there most of them can produce results if used properly. There are, however, a number of opinions on 21st century mandrels. Its not the device necessarily but also the mandrel tolerances. I am just stating what i have found.

If you wanted , pma carbide mandrels will fit 21st if you like the lathe setup of the 21
A valid point. I should give that a go and see what happens. If same thing then its the tool itself clearly.... I have a spare sinclair mandrel I can use also I am kinda not wanting to disassemble the PMA...
