20VT Repeater

Is it possible to build a 20VT repeater that feeds and ejects well using a Remington Model Seven action?

While the 527 probably is your best bet, the Model 7 300 B/O actions i believe had the extractor location same as a 221 fireball and if you used a centerfeed box it could be made to work.

Some of the new rifles that are chambered in the small cartridges i.e. 300 blk or a older series that was in 221fb and such, would make a repeater for you.
Look around for Howa mini, CZ 527, Calhoon ( 19 Cal) and you could re-barrel one of those to 20vt, to obtain one. And some of the old Remingtons, if you can find one at a gun shop or pawn shop.

My action is actually a Defiance Model 7 length. It has an M16 style extractor. It is in a similar location as the 221 FB. The ejector is positioned in the center of the other bolt lug instead of at the bottom of it.

I think you would be fine then with a center feed mag

Not a problem to build one on a Rem Action. Mine feeds and ejects without issue. I changed the extractor to a Sako and run a Magazine follower from PTG, and I found the Fireball mag box from Numrich gun parts

The only 20VT I've shot was one I built on a M700CDL in 17 FB that I ordered in from Zanders around 10yrs ago. They were running a special on them at the time, and I happened to get one with a stock that had some nice grain & was very attractive. I pulled the fluted SS 17FB bbl and sold it here, after sending it to Bartlein to have them do a 20 cal 1-11tw bbl in the same contour. I did that project with prairie dog shooting in mind, but afterwards, realized that the dog towns out here were either eradicated by poison or the plague, or were so over-hunted that you were lucky to get a shot per hour. So I sold the rifle to a guy who had a PD safari planned for the Dakotas. The fact that the action had been set up at the factory for the 17FB made this action a perfect candidate for the 20VT, and I never had a single issue with feeding or ejection, using the factory BDL-type box mag & bottom metal.

My 20VT is built on a Rem Model 7 300 blackout action and works great as a repeater. It's in a MDT LSS chassis and the best feeding magazines are the Ruger 223 mags
